A couple assholes on twitter were saying this so I said to about 10 of them that just 2 weeks ago the projected death toll was to approach 200,000 of people followed social distancing. They have not followed that recommendation/requirement so the death toll should be higher. Now it’s projected to be 60,000 so how did trump kill more people? Also Cuomo refuses to let DeBlasio close NYC and that’s where most deaths are so you should blame Cuomo. Also NYS closed hospital beds and sold ventilators. I of course got no response.
Fuck these people. Of course Trump could have bought more and prepared better but all leaders could have.

Leaders at level level of government (local, state, federal) and virtually all countries around the world barring a few (South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore come to mind) and international organizations like the WHO did not prepare the way they should have. Predictions based on modeling and other experiences from other outbreaks like the original SARS in 2003 should've been a wake-up call to all these entities, but they chose to ignore them. PPE and ventilators could've been stockpiled, hospital, lab and other medical facility capacity could've been ramped-up and expanded, and more research done on anti-virals and therapeutics. Absolutely none of that was done.

So, yeah, Trump did fail us. I agree with that. But, and this is key, SO DID EVERYONE ELSE.

Well for one, he could have directed CDC and contracted with private land to ramp up testing and then fine contact tracing. That's exactly what South Korea, Tawain and Singapore have done to keep this at Bay in their countries with limited disruptions. Prior to all this he could've made preparing for pandemics a greater priority (this applies to his predecessors too).

I absolutely agree with you that political gridlock would've made this difficult or impossible. Cuomo also dropped the ball for not having the ventilators when he could've acquired them years ago. And I fully agree he doesn't care about upstate economically or medically.

Just about all of our political leaders do not have our best interests at heart. These bailouts will do little to help average folks.
