Besides the weather I ran into a couple of guys that were trying to figure out how to get their fixed mag AR Unjammed. It was new and they had never owned or shoot one before. Fortunately it was a magpul that was fixed in the magwell. I showed them how to correct it and they were on their way again.

Then a couple of kids showed up with their rifles one had a 222 the other a 30-06, I have known these two for about a year now and they are good kids. They were just out to play at 100 and 200 yards. Then they started asking questions about shooting out to 400. I spent some time teaching them about drop, MOA and their scope adjustments. Then they went on shoot at 300-400, the one with the 30-06 tired quickly his light savage rifle pounded him something fierce. I invited him to shoot my 223 at 300 and 400 which he quickly accepted the offer. They were there to see about buying a 270 short mag like one of thier friends had. When it showed up they shot about 10 rounds out of it before that got tiring. All in all everyone had a good day.

Yet another side effect of the idiotic SAFE Act. I had a guy in a lane next to me a couple years ago that had a double feed with a fixed mag. Had a hell of time getting the floor plate off. I was a little worried about the tip of the 2nd round igniting the primer of the chambered round

had a range today to with my bud and his wife and kids .. lets see .. 2 ARs in 300BO .. 2 .270's , Savage bolt .223 , Mosin , 12ga skb over under .. , 20ga pump ( little cody's gun ) .. its nice when you have the key to the skeet houses .. lil cody was doing pretty good at station 7 for the first time .. he broke a few .. he also shot my Mosin , he had to hold like CMP shooting since it was so heavy for him , butt kick his shoulder and bruised it but he shook it off ,, dang Mosin got me twice trying to shoot it on the bench rest LOL i got a bruise too .. lil cody is 12 ...

My Cody is 6 years old. 6 more years and he will be shooting M14's. He already knows Grandpa has a 22LR rifle for him.

Once the floorplate is halfway off, you can go ahead with one hand and pull the charging handle back holding it open while you slide the plate off completely with the other. That should eliminate the bolt slamming forward while letting you drop the follower out. I had to do that a few times breaking in my rifle. So silly of me though, all it needed was to be lubed up more and afterwards it was running perfect blowing through 100 rounds of rapid fire and double taps.

A mandated, unsafe government design. No wonder NYS and NYSP won't weigh in on official modifications. To think the courts won't protect us either.

The fact they were inexperienced with the design of the gun complicated things. They had experience with guns and knew they had a problem, they were practicing muzzle discipline and safety as they tried to figure it out. They asked if I had experience with the AR and I told them I had been shooting one for about 34 years. I told them if they would like some instructions and/or pointers on the gun in the future I would gladly help them out. The key is getting them to understand what and how things go wrong and how to safely solve problems. They were only shooting 25 yards to test it out. Lack of lubrication was probably the issue with it but, without sitting down and examining it on the work bench I could not be certain.

There was another issue with a new AR that day, the trigger would not reset. It acted like it was hanging up and had to be nudged back into position after firing. Most likely it is a weak trigger spring. It was a gunshop build and they probably used non milspec springs to lighten up the trigger pull. It was an intermittent problem so it could have been the shooter, although I experienced the same thing on all three round I fired from the gun.

I still got to ring steel and help out some folks so, it was a productive day.

It isn't mandated by the state. It's a workaround. They don't want you to have it period.
