When I do get out of this state in the next couple years, I'm going to be like the Paul Revere of NY ex-pats whether that be in Texas or PA. The warning "Don't think this shit can't happen in your state. It only happens because the union allows it to happen."

When I have been out of state I have had to explain to some people that I am not from NYC.
I explain to them that where I live in NYS there are more cows than people...

How about the "manure state"

Once a month I bring a elderly family member that lives in the city of Buffalo to my house to spend the weekend.
As we enter Darien where the dairy farms start... She always goes, "oh I love the fresh air"

Funny... I say the same thing with a follow up saying I am almost 300 miles from NYC. Funny how they become e more friendly after that.

When I was in Texas the people couldn't believe I was from NY because I am polite and have no tell tale accent. In the beginning of an encounter I would tell them I'm from the West...................Western NY that is Maam....

Listen the day the governor mockingly said (after raising the sin tax on cigarette to $ 2.85 a pack ) as the cigarette industry was up in arms complaining how many customer they would lose. He said That New York Smokers were too stupid and week to stop smoking and it will not effect the industry in any way. I Quit that day and never looked back. I hate that man, I used to love smoking and had to give it up to prove to him I wasn't week or stupid.

TL;DR
- Untaxed cigs on the Indian reservation is around $10 - $20 a carton. Compared to taxed cigs that are $100 - $120 off the res.
- Just like the NY UNSAFE Act, the law regarding untaxed cigs is written in a way to cast as wide of a net as possible.
- The Seneca tribe that's near me is made up of good people IMO. But they will become bad ass if they feel the yoke of tyranny coming down on them.



I get what you are saying, but a lot of people including me buy their cigs on the Indian reservation. Albany gets nothing and I (we) save a ton of money. I pay $2.50 for a pack of untaxed cigs, $21 for a carton and the wife pays $14 for hers. I think that the (taxed) cigs off the reservation cost around $10 - $12 a pack, $100 - $120 a carton... It's a win, win, for me.
I save about $250 a month and Albany gets NO sin tax.

I live real close to the reservation and am on it on a daily basis so it's convenient for me and the rest of us in the area.
But a lot of people have to drive an hour or more to get to the res. Those people that have to drive a somewhat long distance, they buy 10 - 20 or more cartons at a time.

The law regarding untaxed cigs is, a person is allowed to have up to 400 untaxed cigs, or in other words, 2 cartons.
But not really, FACEPALM... Actually, if one pays attention to detail, the way that the law is worded a person is allowed to have 399 untaxed cigs legally not 400 which is conveniently 2 cartons... It's a trick,,, A lot of peoples understanding is that 2 cartons (400 untaxed cigs) is legal. But it is not, 400 untaxed cigs puts a person 1 cig over the limit. And could be charged for tax evasion for that. A class A misdemeanor IIRC.

Just like the NY UNSAFE Act, the law is written in a way to cast as wide of a net as possible. A couple of Sheriff's deputies
in particular would hang out just off the reservation and pull people over for the slightest thing or something that they just made up. Just like they do looking for drunk drivers. But instead of looking for drunk drivers they were fishing for untaxed cigs... They were nailing a lot of people for a while and then it just stopped. I wonder why? I am interested why the deputies stopped doing that. It had to be a gold mine for the local court and Albany.

George Pataki tried to stop the Indians from selling untaxed cigs and it didn't go well for him.
It was kind of like a stare down and Pataki blinked first.

FUAC tried the same thing and it was looking like he was going to be successful. But, the Indians got around FUAC's bullshit by not selling the name brands and producing their own cigs on the reservations. FUAC can't legally do a thing about that.
Sovereign Nation and all... FUAC!!!




This looks like a invasion by NYS on sovereign territory to me... All because Albany is missing out on tax money.
Before the smoke shops, the Indians were living in utter poverty. They found a business model that helped the people
living on the res crawl out of poverty............ And that's a bad thing? ... Fuck Albany and the NYC politicians.

The Reservation that I live near consists of the Seneca tribe. I know a lot of them well.
They are good people IMO but they will not hesitate to fuck people up if they know that they are being wronged.
