Want to save money? Stop budgeting hundreds of millions for NYPD Liability Lawsuits (yearly)... Seems to me, there's something afoot, and it is insane that they expect to pay this out ahead of time!... I'm not a big supporter of Implied Immunity (Shield Laws) but it's ridiculous.

NYPD Claims
As was the case in FY 2017, a small number of New York Police Department (NYPD) claims disproportionately accounted for the total dollar amount paid out on NYPD claims in FY 2018.
  • NYPD tort claim settlements and judgments shrunk dramatically from $335.5 million in FY 2017 to 229.8 million in FY 18, a 32 percent decrease.
  • In FY 2018, five wrongful conviction claims, representing less than one percent of the 3,745 NYPD tort claims resolved during FY 2018, settled for a total of $33.3 million, which accounted for 14 percent of the total $229.8 million in NYPD payouts.
  • NYPD tort claims accounted for 38 percent of the total overall cost of resolved tort claims in FY 2018.
  • The number of tort claims filed against the NYPD dropped to 6,472 in FY 18 from 6,546 in FY 2017.
Crazy right...? Over 6,000 tort claims ... Come on! But they'll pay, $10k here, $100k there! And the pariah lawyers make out win, lose or draw... Anyways...

My buddy was a tort lawyer for the city . They dont let anything goto trial ,they just pay out . If you ever get hurt ,wrongfully arrested ,even hurt during an arrest its an easy payday in NYC.

I find the same in my area. My dad towed a black guys car because he had zero brakes. Like zero. No brake fluid it all leaked out. He wanted to drive it back to Buffalo. He said no. Have some sob story how he had to get back for work. My dad and another cop ponies up $60 for a cab ride and called a cab for him. Later to find out he told the cabbie they only gave him $20 and stole the other $40. He later sued because all this only happened because he’s black and got another $3,000 out of the city. That one is stupidly ridiculous and he should have been arrested for theft of goods/services.

If I do something illegal while at work In the name of work you can bet your ass I have to hire my own lawyer and I won’t have a job.
