My patience is wearing thin. I think your time limit is well over-due. What did you buy? Or did you give-up on the whole trap/skeet idea?
So thinking of getting into trap and skeet and pondering shotguns. Need advice.

I absolutely positively didn't give up on the idea. I'm still extremely interested, but life has gotten in the way. In the process of procuring a new vehicle ( at these interest rates, during a supply chain shortage of all times) along with 2 other firearms purchases that I have waited nearly 2.5 years to acquire. The timing couldn't be worse, but I swear I intend to move forward.My patience is wearing thin. I think your time limit is well over-due. What did you buy? I used to shoot Trap at the NYS homegrounds in Cicero, NY....very addictive...2-4 nights a week , and at the big NYSATA shoots.........wow!!!

Trap shotguns are specialized..not field guns like Sporting Clays and Skeet.
Best cheaper Trap guns are the Browning BT-99 or Remington 870 Trap. Rudy Etchen was a national champ in Trap, with a Remington 870 Trap. Do not buy a $12,000 Trap gun until you must.
Sporting Clays/5 stand, and Skeet are also addictive. Prepare to reload with a MEC.
Shotgun shooters become instinctive shooters, and are among the best defensive shots. Great guys at most clubs.

I use my 12 and 20 gauge 870's. Both 26" barrels and never a problem. Thousands of rounds through both of them.
Regular field guns are fine for skeet and 5 stand/sporting clays and hunting....any brand.

It took me 2 years to finally hit all 25 in a round.
I once won a gun in a shootoff in Handicap trap, at the NYC Athletic Club shoot in Cicero from 20 yard line....I hit 275 straight with a BT-99, 34" bbl full choke.
Handicap trap is bizarre---best shooters get to shoot from 16 yard line but new shooters have to go all the way back to 23 yard line.
Trap stocks have a high comb and sometimes raised ribs, to help you shoot high over the fast rising target.... Optical illusion.
Most trap gun barrels are 30"-34".
MEC progressive reloaders are the standard.

If you get into skeet/trap/sporting clays, you will be shooting many many thousands of rounds through the gun. Sporting clays = 100 + shells, each round of skeet 25, each round of trap 25. It is easy to do 6-8 rounds of skeet/trap on any day.
I have a bunch of shotguns, but if I were to recommend a single gun to be used for all three (skeet, sporting clays, trap)., I would look for a Browning Citori O/U. Mine is from 1984 and has many, many, many shells through it and I've NEVER had a problem with it. If you are going to do all three sports perhaps a 30" barrel. [EDIT: There are a lot of good O/U shotguns, but it is an area that you can't "cheap out" on, thus the rec for a "reasonable" priced Browning.]
p.s. Once you do sporting clays, that will be your preference. The next thing you know you will buy a reloader and .... oh, never mind that because powder and primers are hard to find.

So, some news. For nearly a year, every week I have assisted a friend who has been hiking the Appalachian trail ( over 2100 miles) by keeping watch on his home, retrieving mail, acting as a post office in both receiving and sending packages throughout the entire time along with driving his truck occasionally to keep it in working order, battery charged and brakes freed up. I never asked for anything....he is a good friend, and I would have never expected anything from him. That's what friends do in my world. He is nearly done and we had a chance to chat today as he finally had cell service lol. During the conversation he shocked me with his gratitude.
He has offered to buy me my trap/skeet gun, a year membership at our local gun club and a years worth of ammo to participate, along with a gift of my favorite gun in his collection, a Rossi side gate chromed lever action with peep site.
I am blown away. He will be returning early March, and soon after we heading out to buy one. I mentioned the silver pigeon and the benelli as my top 2 choices along with thier retail price and he didn't flinch.
This is incredible. I guess it's right that do good in life and life will return the favor. I can't stop smiling.

I went to a Super Bowl party last week. It always involves trap shooting and a small pistol range knocking down bowling pins and busting clays. I only brought my cheap Girsan mc312 for myself and the TriStar Viper for my daughter. I got shit from a bunch of dummies that only know the name Remington from their daddy's old beat up guns. The TriStar had several jams from the girls that wouldn't hold it tight to their shoulder and Girsan suffered from stupidity from those who confused the shell release with the bolt release. But it was great fun and me and my friends son came in 2nd place on a little game we put together. But boy, it put the itch back into me for the Benelli Ethos all over again!! I may have to trade in the Beretta 300 I never use.

I'm also jealous of the Appalachian hike.
I appreciate his friendship immensely also. He is the one who got me into firearms not long ago ( like right around when I joined here) and taught me the ropes. I did what I've done helping out as a show of appreciation for kinda showing me the ropes of firearms never, ever expecting anything for it. He plans to walk the pacific coast trail this year, and I plan on assisting just the same as I have done....without expecting anything.

I'm really kinda in awe of it honestly. Just the facts alone are astonishing ;
It's nearly 2200 miles long.
He has carried everything he needs.
It's been regularly 20° or less-still sleeping outside WITHOUT a shelter- just a tarp and a hammock.
The elevation changes in climbing height are equivalent to climbing Mt Everest.....
18 times.
He has worn out 4 pairs of hiking shoes in the process
And 3 things that blow my mind are
1) He is intend on doing the pacific coast trail starting in Mexico and ending in CANADA and
2) He is hiking completely alone and
3) he did this starting at......Age 67....last year.
I can't imagine the difficulty let alone think of attempting to do this myself. Incredible dude, incredible life story honestly. Christ, he studied Buddhism for 12 years...that isn't even 1/5 of it all. Great friend, great guy.

I can't imagine starting the trail at 67! My youngest daughter made the attempted 5 years ago (she only made 120 miles). The wife and I drove her down and hiked the first day with her (11miles). We left her alone on the trail the next morning and we hiked the 11 miles out to Springer Mountain. Maybe I would have made the attempt 45 or 50 years ago but the hike in and out did me in! I was hobbling and limping by the time we go to the car!
