Yup. Can't speak for OC, but in Westchester, the fingerprint/submit paperwork appointment was about 20 minutes standing in the office with no other applicant there waiting for someone to finish what they're doing. A few minutes before I got fingerprinted, a detective came over, looked over my application and we bullshitted. He gave me a really good piece of advice and suggested a tiny change on my application that was for the better. Then the nice lady fingerprinted me, took my paperwork and I was on my merry way.
Wait until you hear the one about the fact your finger prints don't change, but you will have to be re-printed (fee) for tons of stuff. I've had 4 jobs require it, NY CCW, PA CCW, good times. All EASILY could just be a click of a button. People are lying when they say it isn't simple extortion.
Gotta hate the inconsistency. Your county wants you to put "all lawful purposes" to issue a full carry. Meanwhile, putting "All lawful purposes" on a full carry application in Westchester is a waste of ink. The detective's advice to me was that you aren't trying to convince a judge that you "want" a sportsman's or full carry, you have to convince them why you "need" one more than any regular person off the street.
Well, where they make this process stupid and convuluted, I see it as a game to beat them at. Unfortunately, we're pretty much just screwed here. The lemming majority won't vote for people who support 2A rights, "writing" my local politicians probably wastes only slightly more of their staffers' time than it does mine, and the courts at every level are against us. The rules out the ballot box and the jury box. I'm not ready to use the cartridge box to enforce my rights, so I'll stick to the soap box. Talk to people about shooting, take new shooters to the range, etc.

You should move up to Chautauqua county. My buddy just went thru the process to get his permit for the first time. From taking the pistol class, to finger printing to being issued his unrestricted permit it took a total of 2 weeks from beginning to permit in hand. He just got his on March 15th. I was shocked at how fast Chautauqua county moved. It made my Erie county total time of 3 months look bad.
. So is this just a dumb coincidence that the Sheriff got my name and address for this fundraising letter OR... does he take anyone that comes in and gets fingerprinted for a Pistol Permit and then put their name down on that mailing list. Making you wonder... could they possibly be using this against someone if there is no $25 check sent in as a donation. I think it's pretty fucked up that this letter arrives while I still await approval from them on my background check.
If you've never gotten a letter from them before I think you know your answerSo check this out... we were fingerprinted by the Rockland Sheriff a few weeks ago. Today a letter shows up from the Rockland County Sheriff for me... which I thought might have been something that needed clarification.
Nope... turns out it's the Sheriff asking for a DONATION the the NYS Sheriffs' Institute...

The excuses vary from county to county. Some blame the Mental Health Check. Some blame the Fingerprints. Some Blame the Judge Some blam the Police Dept. When a system is arbitrary and capricious, you can blame whoever you want and ballle with BS because the is no proof because it is, well, arbitrary and capricious. The bottom line it is usually the Police Dept taking their good old sweet time interviewing your references. Used as busy work for light duty etc.
BY the letter of the law, the only responsibility of the Police on the application is to "verify" that all of your supplied statements are true.
So, correct me if I am wrong, 13 months with additional wait time after the interview? What county is this again?
