Huh... I've seen photo shoots of models with their finger OFF the trigger, and it looks perfectly natural to me.

Then again, muscle memory is so strong in me that I tend to keep my index finger along the 'frame' when I'm gassing up my Jeep.
Guess I'm just weird.

I am/was a photographer.

For photo shoots i INSIST the models have their fingers on the trigger.

It looks stupid otherwise.

I get flamed at time but i dont care.

It looks stupid not to have your finger on the trigger for gun related photo shoot.

I do not consider social media a photo shoot.

I must be a weirdo too. I'm a mechanic by trade, and I find my finger straight and off the trigger of drills and impact guns all day long. It's just burned into my brain

Good training for nail guns too. I know a lot of pro's bump nail, and that's where serious trigger discipline can really save some body parts.

Forget the discount. I can only imagine how pitiful my life would become if I could no longer do the "Shocker."

So what do you all think? Harmless, bad form, or utterly wrong in the extreme/dangerous. For me, having your finger on the trigger when not actually shooting is a big pet peeve of mine. I shoot with my uncle and cousin a lot and they tend to do this more than I like. Having said that is it really all that bad? Thoughts.

There are times when I would not even consider placing my finger on the trigger when not shooting but yet there are also times when I do it without hesitation once I have assured that the firearm is unloaded. Wow - did I just violate another of those ridiculous all the time every time no exception kind of rules by indicating a gun can indeed be unloaded?

Truth be told, I place my finger on the trigger and then activate the trigger to dry fire. I also do it to disassemble some firearms. I do it after assembling a firearm as part of a function check. Oh yeah, I also do it with bolt action rifles to assure the bolt goes forward but the rifle does not cock just prior to putting a bolt gun away. I bet if I thought about it very carefully, I might think of another instance or two when I have my finger on the trigger but am not shooting.

Same thing goes for always considering a gun loaded. To always treat every gun as if it was loaded is a ridiculous rule. You would never and I mean never stick a cleaning rod down the bore of a firearm if such was the case. Nor would you look down a barrel with a bore light at the other end to check the rifling or the cleanliness of the bore.

Same thing for being aware of your target and what is beyond. How far do your bullets travel, can you see everything in the direction of the shot for that entire distance, before you shoot and thus be absolutely sure nothing you do not want to destroy is in the path of the projectile or will cross that path by the time the bullet gets there (I got two rules in that one sentence).

Virtually no rules are ever absolute unless made up by someone who knows better than everybody else, or at least thinks of himself that way.
