I wonder what the forecast for Social Security running out...what the date is now as that thousands over 62 have passed.

Talking about this last night at work. Social Security was not designed to pay the old for 30-40 years. People are not supposed to live this long. The SS fund is going to save some serious money because of Covid.

Did you know that a spouse..who never worked a day in their life is entitled to 50% of their significant other...that's SS for the worker and 50% for the never worker. If both worked..the lesser earner is entitled to 50% of the higher earner.(if less than their SS compared to the higher earner) No...I paid into SS for 48 years....been collecting for 8 and don't feel bad about it at all....And if I were to collect for 30 to 40 years...I would be 92 to 102...don't think so. My 2 cents is if a person doesn't pay into the SS fund...then You get zip. NO exceptions.

Hell, if I live to be 90, I will gladly take that check each and every month. I will not feel bad about that either. Just stating a fact, nothing more and nothing less. If you read the original writings of SS, it is said multiple times that the expected years of payout were between 7-11 years.
I think the entire system is shot and should have never been implemented. SS is a joke and should end. Should not be the tax payers or the governments responsibility to take care of the old upon retirement.

The solution is to vote Democratic and they will give you all the free money they think you need. One thing I learned over the years is when a "system" is changed by another "system" and touted as being better.........usually it's not

Watch politicians spin CV19 impacts to say that the high unemployment choked off payroll contributions and hieghtened the crisis requiring immediate higher taxation, raising eligibility ages, reducing benefits, and eliminating payouts to those with adequate pensions / IRAs / 401Ks.

The downstate counties that endured the nursing home deaths will see a reduction in their mandated Medicaid costs. Based on fewer patients bills being paid for on the taxpayers dime.
If a private citizen did the same thing as the gov did in relation to SS the Gov would call it a Ponzi scheme and arrest them.

It would take far less to keep Social Security afloat for a long time.

Advances in Medicine will allow people to work to more advanced ages, and AI will greatly improve productivity.
There will be AI Nurses and Health Care workers, that will improve treatments and lower costs.
This is not Pie-In-The-Sky. Advances have been non-stop, and inevitable.

All I have to say is the fuckers better return what I have paid or I will sue them. They took the $$ out of my check saying it will be there for me when I retire.

Hell, I'm Gen-X and I doubt I'll see more than a token amount for my investment.
Now, I'm not saying they won't pay me my $2k/month that they promised. I'm saying that $2k will be barely enough for dinner and a movie, maybe.

Earliest possible...one doesn't know how long they have. Figure it out at if taken at 62...you start losing money at 76 or there about.
I would rather it be a voluntary thing versus a theft through taxes thing.
Id most likely give more if I had a choice.
Same with Medicade/Medicare.

If my body holds up I will work until age 70 .. Yes to max out what I will receive and it means another 5-6 years I will not be pulling any money out of my 401k which compared to many people is a bit on the lean side.... During the Obama years there was a great push to get folks off welfare and on to SS disability just so he could say how he reduced the welfare rolls.. From what I am reading there could be folks that have long term damage to their lungs due to the Covid 19 ... IF so look for more people applying for SS disability than the elderly vanishing from the SS rolls due to death of Covid 19...

I took SS at 64 with 33 years in the NYSLRS. Been retired 5 years this July. From her work wifey has same retirement benefits as I. Haven’t touched my 403(b) yet might not have to for awhile longer because of the Kung Flu. Life is good for us.

If you can't work you can get a slick lawyer and apply for SS disability and most likely get it....more room for SS recipients now that 40.000 or so have passed

Personally I find the "I invested my money in this why shouldn't I have it" argument weak as hell and frankly insulting.
You didnt invest it- the government took it from you.
They didnt "invest it"- they spent it on paying benefits to existing drawees that have far outlived the initial model for this program.
Now you want them to do the same for you from my FICA.
