A String of Fires Destroys Food Processing Facilities Across America​


A curious string of fires and plane crashes over the last month have destroyed the facilities of at least five major food processors across four different states, exacerbating an escalating inflation and supply chain crisis that is quickly becoming chronic.

The most recent instance appears to be the destruction of Oregon-based Azure Standard’s joint headquarters and warehouse facilities during the night of April 18.

In the text of an email alerting affiliates to the damage, the company describes itself as “the USA’s largest independent food distributor.”


The blaze appears to have received almost zero media attention, only being covered in a terse rewrite of the press release by small town media outlet Columbia Gorge News and the Columbia Community Connection News (CCC) blog.

On April 13, a major food California processing plant belonging to Taylor Farms burned almost completely to the ground. USA Today affiliate The Californian quoted Deputy Fire Chief Sam Klemek as saying, “About 85% to 95% of the building is a total loss.”

Taylor Farms is a major player in the food supply chain for both Canada and the United States. According to a company press release, the firm was recognized by Walmart as its 2022 Food Supplier of the Year in March.

The same day as the Taylor Farm fire, an airplane crashed into Idaho’s Gem State Processing plant. A release by the local police department said that while the pilot did not survive, no employees were injured.

On March 28, Maricopa Food Pantry, a local food bank in Arizona, lost 50,000 pounds worth of food in a fire that occurred “just 15 minutes after their food bank closed,” according to CBS affiliate Arizona’s Family.

On March 22, Tri-City Herald reported that the Shearer’s Foods potato chip plant in Hermiston, Oregon was “gone” after a boiler explosion and its subsequent fire annihilated the facility.


On March 31 Texas-based Rio Fresh suffered a fire that severely damaged an onion processing facility.

Local media outlet KRGV reported the site employed 300 people and that “hundreds of thousands of warehouse space and structure was damaged from the fire.”

New Hampshire’s East Conway Beef and Pork, disaster struck on April 11 when a fire broke out serious enough that it took respondents 16 hours to extinguish.

No planes crashed into a Mc'Donalds in recent months, but that was a pretty specific query, but there was one a couple years ago.

I get your point, but I have a hard time swallowing it. When you have several things going wrong with the food chain, simultaneously, or concurrent, , such as railroad cutbacks, fertilizer shortage, fires in distribution centers in one industry ,back up at the ports, Avian bird flu killing chickens, When you have the president saying there will be supply chain issues and food will be going up in price, I cant help but become suspicious. I dont see this happening in any other industry nor have I before. This is all specific to the food chain .

The FBI's Cyber Division published a notice this past week warning about increased cyber-attack threats on agricultural cooperatives, which comes at a time when a curious string of fires and explosions damage major food processing plants across the country.

"Ransomware actors may be more likely to attack agricultural cooperatives during critical planting and harvest seasons, disrupting operations, causing financial loss, and negatively impacting the food supply chain," the notice read, adding 2021 and early 2022 ransomware attacks on farming co-ops could affect the current planting season "by disrupting the supply of seeds and fertilizer."

The agency warned, "A significant disruption of grain production could impact the entire food chain, since grain is not only consumed by humans but also used for animal feed ... In addition, a significant disruption of grain and corn production could impact commodities trading and stocks. "

What farmers need to know about FDA guidance ending OTC antibiotics​

Beginning in June 2023, farmers won’t be able to buy any over-the-counter antibiotics for their animals. This will be a big change for farmers, many of whom are accustomed to doing much of their own veterinary care. Like it or not, farmers need to be prepared.

“Change is hard for everyone, and this is a huge change for those commonly used drugs that every livestock producer and a lot of small animals folks are used to being able to purchase over the counter,” said Erika Alt, assistant state veterinarian for the West Virginia Department of Agriculture, during a March 22 West Virginia University Extension webinar explaining the Food and Drug Administration’s Guidance for Industry No. 263.

The new FDA guidance recommends manufacturers of “medically important antimicrobials” that are currently available over-the-counter label their drugs available by prescription only. The guidance was finalized in June 2021 and will take effect in June 2023 nationwide.

That means farmers will need to have a veterinary-client-patient relationship, or VCPR, in order to get antibiotics like penicillin, oxytetracycline and erythromycin.

This is not good. I know of many farmers that know about their livestock than vets do.

Who would you trust? A 60 year old beef farmer that has been doing it since a child in the family and knows about every trick in the book, or some 21 year old just out of college wanna be vet that services all but nothing?

No thanks, I'd rather let the life experience put the food on my table.

On top of all this, vets are expensive. I can't see my local farmer making ends meet.

In fact, I really wanted a dog a few years ago, but vet bills are expensive.

Heck, when I was a kid, the only time we brought the dog to the vet was for something serious and back then it was cheap.

I hear now it's like over $250-300 for a basic checkup?

You got to watch this, he's talking about exactly what you brought up. On top of that new regulations are going to be putting small farmers out of business while the Chinese are buying up farmland. It looks like between China and some big billionaires there looking to put independent Farmers out of business in centralized the farming industry which will only raise prices astronomically for the Common Man.
