Actually they do. It tends to lean right - think of the success of rush Limbaugh. I don't know how the successor show is doing but it also leans right.

Sorts wants these stations to essentially change the politics on the airwaves. If a rich conservative was buying 200 stations the mainstream press would scream bloody murder.

I’m assuming he’s bought plenty of them. I used to listen to a country station and it was all conservative talk then they hired this young Midwest intern and it’s all stupid vegan crunchy liberal crap now. They lost me.

Haven't listened to terrestrial radio in decades. It's either Sirius XM (for now) or USB stick, or Plex.
If I'm driving somewhere I want to listen to music, not 10 minutes of music and 20 minutes of commercials and incessant useless babble.

(Sirius' days are numbered. They are starting to inject useless babble, edit songs for content, and re-run old countdowns ad nauseum on weekends).

More like Ronald Reagan ditching the fairness doctrine. He paved the way for Clinton's BS.



The Fairness Doctrine, enforced by the Federal Communications Council, was rooted in the media world of 1949. Lawmakers became concerned that the monopoly audience control of the three main networks, NBC, ABC and CBS, could misuse their broadcast licenses to set a biased public agenda.

The doctrine stayed in effect, and was enforced until the Reagan Administration. In 1985, under FCC Chairman, Mark S. Fowler, a communications attorney who had served on Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign staff in 1976 and 1980, the FCC released a report stating that the doctrine hurt the public interest.

Fowler began rolling the application of the doctrine back during Reagan's second term - despite complaints from some in the Administration that it was all that kept broadcast journalists from thoroughly lambasting Reagan's policies on air. In 1987, the FCC panel, under new chairman Dennis Patrick, repealed the Fairness Doctrine.

In June 1987, Congress attempted to preempt the FCC decision and codify the Fairness Doctrine, (Fairness in Broadcasting Act of 1987 S. 742). The bill passed but the legislation was vetoed by President Ronald Reagan.

I used to listen to country all the time. But country has been so off track and pussified I don' bother to listen much now. If I'm driving or puttering inside the house or garage I listen to Bob Lonsberry, on wsyr or 106 fm from 3 to 6PM here in central NY. Great talk show. He's a common sense conservative and strong 2A supporter.
