found this today, i use one of their clamp on brakes on my 300WM and its really well made, works well. Was looking for a clamp on for my NY AR and came across this - how is this not classified as a suppressor? Anyone have knowledge of this type of muzzle attachment?

Probably because end of tube isn't closed off like a can it's basically a shroud

It Looks like it just redirects the blast and noise, like the Troy claymore. On a bolt action gun it will not run afoul of the safe act. On a semi auto it is a crapshoot. Looks like this one is threaded on to the barrel so it would probably be a no go.

would be putting it on a fixed mag AR10 so threaded is allowed theoretically. i just wonder if it fails interpretation. If its technically a shroud, would it be legal?

It is not claiming to reduce the signature of the weapon just redirect it away from the shooter. It is not a suppressor so the ATF is not interested in it. The fixed mag negates the safe act considerations therefore it would be fine to install it.

It works on my fixed magazine AR. It does nothing to silence the report, but does redirect the sound and concussion. On those rare times when I have forgotten to put the muffs back on at the range it has made all the difference in bringing me to my knee's. For hunting, I like to be able to hear the ambient noise of the woods, sometimes you don't have time to cover ears, it makes all the difference.

I thought you in particular and some others said if the magazine is fixed you could put anything you want on your threaded barrel. Ah well, FUNY!

I've used something similar from a couple of manufacturers . It was called a flash can and does throw the sound down range.

It’s classified the same as a flash can. It directs all sound and muzzle blast down range. Makes it more pleasant for the shooter and those around them. I have the KAK flash can on several of my rifles both bolt and semi. Legal on a semi auto with fixed mag or permanently attached to the barrel.

this one is a brake with a flash can that goes around it so would be good on a bolt or a fixed mag semi as brakes are no go on detachable mag semi. Flash cans by themselves can slightly increase felt recoil

It’s not a suppressor as it is open at the end, does not have internal baffles, and does not reduce sound levels but merely redirects it to in front of the barrel.

Most likely Burger King, whopper with cheese, fries and a coke. My daughter had been born a few weeks earlier, my wife was on leave from her job at the hospital, my sister in law was our nanny, and Burger King was down the street. I would come home from the airfield and pick up lunch for three of us when I was not flying.
