On the other side of the aisle from the principled stand being taken by Hornady, You have Vista Outdoor.

Vista Outdoor Inc. has been pressured for months by retailers that sell its other goods like Bell bicycle helmets and CamelBak water carriers, to stop manufacturing firearms.

The Utah company said Tuesday that it will be seeking buyers for its firearms manufacturing business, and will focus on products for outdoor enthusiasts. It will continue to sell ammunition, its biggest core businesses.

Really? You seriously think after throwing us under the bus that we’re going to continue buying your ammo?

If you own stock in Vista Outdoor, I’d recommend you sell. Immediately. Oops…too late.

Vista (VSTO)’s stock price fell 15% after the company released a separate statement online, where Chief Executive Officer Chris Metz said Vista “plans to explore strategic options” for Savage and Stevens firearms, as well as some non-gun brands, like Bell helmets.

Like Hornady XTP for self-defense ammo, CCI blazer has been my go to range ammo for quite some time…I especially like their .22lr offering. That’s OK…I imagine the other ammo manufacturers (like, say, Hornady) will appreciate a bit more business. I’m also partial to Alliant powders for reloading and CCI primers. I’ll use up what I have on hand, but there are plenty of alternatives out there. Probably the biggest sacrifice will be giving up Hoppe’s No 9. That’s been my go-to bore cleaner my whole life. Ah well…who knows, maybe there’s something out there I’ll find I like better that I’ve been missing out on all this time.

With the exception of a select few of those listed, most are bottom-of-the-barrel products. A boycott of Uncle Mikes or Millit will have absolutely no impact on my buying habits.

The only 2 that bother me is CCI and Savage. But in the end I've really already bought my last new Savage, I'd just buy a used one next anyhow. I used to shoot a lot of CCI ammo when I was going through a brick a week for practice, not so much any more. Plenty of other choices left.

This was not a move to suck up to the anti-2A crowd. It is a financial move to raise cash. A thinned down company who contends its core business is the sale of ammunition (CCI, SPEER, BLAZER, FEDERAL, AMERICAN EAGLE, et al) is not throwing the gun community under the bus by selling their unprofitable firearm manufacturing. Likewise, a struggling business focusing on ammo manufacturing is not sucking up to the never satisfied Anti-2A wingnuts. They made this move for the same reason they had two recent 25% rebates on their ammunition, they are wiggling to raise cash.

More likely is that they needed to make some money and dump some less profitable companies. Is there an actual truth of this claim, aside from the anti-gun writer of the ABC narrative? Their only "complainer" listed is REI. REI doesn't dictate sale of Bell helmets, or anything else. Amazon does, Walmart does. REI isn't even a squirt of piss in that bucket. The margins are dictated by Amazon and Walmart, and they're almost zero.

Camelback shouldn't be in danger from REI. Bikers and Hikers buy those specific packs because they research them. Buyers go to where the Camelbacks are, to prove what will fit. REI loses the sale, not Camelback. It doesn't add up.



This story kind of carries the stink of a gun grabber's piggyback of something that was already happening. If it's a reaction to REI and such? Then wreck Vista; they made their choice. But this would be a perfect piggyback of something already in the works due to no money. It's a perfect grabber's ploy to harm them.


DO continue to shop at Dicks on occasion. Look at stuff, and have no qualms about letting a sales pig help. And when they try to close the sale, "Thanks, but your company is against civil rights. Make sure you tell your manager. I -would- have bought this here. Hopefully your company will change your stance."

Add REI to that list. Except now, buy the shit right in front of them, on your phone. And tell them why.
