Spent some money on Friday...

Bought myself a Glock 43. Dropped the paperwork off at the County Clerk's office (Putnam). Joyce told me 2-4 week turn around! Let the impatient finger tapping commence.

Any other Putnam residents make a recent purchase? Is the wait really 2-4 weeks, or is this just a tactic to get people to stop calling asking for their paperwork?

Fun times. Oh, and before I forget, FUAC!

Here in onandoga county it's a walk-in walk-out 10 minute ordeal to amend your permit ar the Sherrif's office.

Some counties are taking months to add a pistol.

Just to add a pistol? That’s crazy. Oswego county You just walk in and add it. I thought that is how all the counties did it except for nyc area

It’s pretty simple to add in Erie county just a trip to the office and a few bucks takes more time to park and walk to the pp office than to get an updated permit and coupon. The G43 is a great pistol! I love mine you won’t be disappointed.

Here on the island we call it the shuffle you buy the gun go to PLB get a purchase document go back to the gun store pick up the gun then bring it back to PLB to be put on your license.

once someone has a permit, which I disagree with anyway, all you should have to do is walk into a gun shop, show your pistol permit, fill out the 4473 and walk away with it. And if the nanny state really wants to know what you have then you should be able to mail in an amendment form after you already have possession of your property. And this should be Universal throughout the state. Each County having different rules is even more ridiculous.

I agree the process sucks. If you already have a permit, you've already passed a background check. Doing it again for every purchase is lame.

In Putnam, you makes your purchase, bring the receipt to the County Clerk's office and fill out a form. They make copies of your permit (two cards in my case), and it goes to a judge to sign off. Back in the day there was only one judge. I've dropped off paperwork on Monday and got the amendment that Friday. Now there are three judges and the wait is 2-4 weeks? Am I missing something, or is every resident in Putnam submitting amendments all day long?

That's pure BS. That's well over the six months and well over a year! Here in the keystone state you don't need a permit of any kind to buy or even take home. Only when you want to carry (concealed). Open carry nothing is needed. I've gone out at lunch time and come back with a gat a time or two.

How about I applied for my permit in late 2016 did fingerprints March 30. In June received a letter from judge that if I wanted move forward to get a anger management evaluation by a licensed professional to state I was ok to own firearms (was arrested 1 time in life 2004 only received a ticket no criminal record). The doc sent letter in August forgot to make sure said ok to "own firearms". Revised letter sent in November to judge. Judges sends denial letter in Jan. Had to hire a attorney for appeal which I won just picked up permit yest.

It is well known (to me at least) that the PP department does not answer the phone and have not returned any of my voicemails. That said it has been a couple of weeks, you have me motivated to call again today.

That's a bunch of BS. I would be calling once a week just to get on their nerves. I might consider weekly visits too.


After I started my process in Cortland County, it took 9 months grand total to receive my permit, but it has NO restriction at all.


It was worth the wait in my opinion.
