Springfield Armory M1A........ hit piece

I posted mostly because I find it interesting this is the sort of press the company gets now days.

That beside $3,700 for that level of performance is ridiculous.
If one wanted an M1A regardless of SA's douche baggery in Illinois I think one would be better served with the GI model.

Furthermore I think the M1A/M14 series time has passed. For the money one could have an AR10 that will far outperform the M1A in accuracy, for a "battle rifle" type this kind of money can get you into a SCAR or my beloved Galil ACE or any number of upcoming 308 semi autos.
For nostalgia I would rather shoot a Garand and get the extra theater of the enbloc ping.

I guy at the range I belong to bought the match rifle to shoot in the CMP matches and had nothing but trouble with it. The groups were terrible. He sent it in to SA twice and it was no better. With the best ammo in it reloads or factory it would not touch the performance of his M1 with a 70 year old barrel. I think he told me that the older M1As were produced in a different factory and that they dont have the problems that new ones do.

Not much love lost it seems. I think that more than anything it's because the cost of these guns has overrun their usefulness. Same thing goes for the M1 carbine, nice little carbines but now far too expensive for what they offer. The SKS is in the process of following them.

Ehh, I have a $5k M25 (M14) from LRB it was rebarreled to 6.5 Creedmoor by Wolfe industries last year and is a 1/2" shooter at 100 yards. It is in a JAE 100 G3 stock which cost about 2K so that is how it became a 5K rifle. I also have a Springfield M1A which is a 1.5 MOA gun it shoots better some days and worse on others it was a 1.4K gun.

I like the M14 style guns almost as much as I like my ARs and Bolt guns. They all have a purpose and a place in history. The M14 has a cult following and even though it did not serve as the Military's primary battlefield weapon for long those who shot it loved it and have a very low opinion of the Mattel Gun that replaced it.

M14 guys are good people (for the most part) they normally have more money than the rest of us non-cultist and use it shooting 30 caliber holes in paper at long distances.

I love my M1A, but I don't love Springfield. Their quality control outright sucks sweaty moose nuts. Add the Illinois BS and now they can go fuck themselves. I personally love the shorties. 16'', 18", or 19" all suit my fancy.

On another note, I've always wanted a SCAR 17. Maybe I'll get one to keep in Texas with my other toys.

The LRB M25 will shoot sub MOA from the factory with wooden stocks. My M25 is excessively accessorized because I could do it, it was a deployment present to myself, which means it was going to have everything available on it (hence the price).

My M1 Garand came from the CMP and cost me 1K (another deployment present) it will hold the 9 ring at 100 when I do my part.

The Springfield M1A I own was purchased in 2011 before Springfield made their misfortunate announcement. It is their "loaded" level gun not a super match or National Match level gun. I knew about its performance potential prior to buying it, the M1A is still a remarkable gun and with it being available in newer calibers that outperform the 308 it will be remarkable for a long time.

The three guns are in my collection because of their military history (receiver design) and the ties to my Family's military service. Both my grandfathers carried the M1 Garand, my father carried an M14 and I carried the M16 during my TIS. These will be passed on to my daughter when I am no longer able to use them and hopefully she will pass them on to her offspring (when/if she has any).

As you said performance is not the reason we buy everything we buy. You must also realize the price of a rifle doesn't always mean it was spent in the persuit of performance either.

Your beef with Springfield is a valid one in your eyes. I will not try to change your mind, nor should anyone. It is your cross bear it however you please.

I got the 5k LRB crossed up with your loaded Springfield Armory 1.5 MOA gun is what happened.

Any of the possibilities discussed are enough to prevent me from spending money on their products. And frankly for every product they offer there is an equal or superior alternative so it's not even a difficult stance to maintain.
The only product of theirs I had any interest in was their Opertator TRP in 10mm but now that Dan Wesson offeres the Valor model in 10mm I'd rather go with that. Or the Bruin, or maybe I just get another G20.

Using that premise you should boycott virtually every major corporation in America. They sold us out during the obamacare bullshit for their bottom line. For decades they used to offer health care insurance as a "BENEFIT" to entice people to want to work for them, not a right.. When they saw a chance to shuck that expense they damn near trampled each other to get on board.
