Squibb round in revolver

Went to the range last night, one of the regular guys, an older gentleman, had a Squibb round. I was 2 booths over I didn’t hear it but thank GOD him and some others did. This guy is a bit hard of hearing but he had on electronic muffs.

Here’s a picture of the round stuck in the barrel.

He got it out and actually gave me the round and the casing. He was shooting CCI aluminum cased and the casing split open. If I remember tomorrow I’ll try to post a picture of the round.

Just wanted to post this so that maybe someone who might be new to shooting will come across it and try to research what exactly it is, and how it sounds.it has a very distinct sound.

Good catch, it could of done some personal damage if it wasn't caught before the next discharge. I have seen a few squibb rounds that were caught before the next discharge.
I seen a nice stainless S&W model 60 stubby the had a squibb and a follow up shot. It blew the cylinder apart on the left side of the gun.
It was a woman who was shooting under charged rounds her husband loaded for her. He reduced the loads below the minimum charge to save on powder and to give his wife less recoil in her carry gun.
Luckly she didn't get hurt or the person on her left side.

Shit like that can be fatal.

I've had some squibs in my life time and have always been able to feel it. The biggest squib I ever had would make most people drop a load in there pants. It was 155mm howitzer and we were firing high angle (think almost straight up) and the round (about 100lbs.) fell back down onto the powder and when fired we had nothing but a WHOOSH and no recoil, NONE! Normal recoil would be about 30" , we (the gun crew) unassed that 109 in a BIG hurry! EOD came out and after letting the tube and round cool for a couple hours they (4 guys) just punched the round out from the muzzle and the fifth man was inside to catch it. We just sat around in the sun and watched. It was an interesting day.

What's with the screw driver in the picture? Did he ruin his barrel to get the squib out?

No luckily he didn’t. He had a metal rod that he said he used but I think he tried the screw driver first.

I've cleared squib loads from revolvers with both steel rods and wooden dowels, depending on caliber. A bit of RemOil in the barrel behind the stuck bullet is a good thing.
Funny, I've never had a single squib with a .22 rimfire. Duds, yes but never a squib. Never a .22 hangfire either.

I’ve had a similar issue with a Remington Golden Bullet casing getting stuck in the barrel. Luckily the casing came out easy but it split open and bulged outward causing it to get stuck. The round went off fine.

I contacted Remington and sent back the remaining rounds left in the box and they replaced the box.
