FUAC land – The State Assembly is moving forward with a measure that would make the declawing of cats against the law.

Pet owners may believe they are preventing their cats from ripping up the furniture or curtains by declawing them, but the actual surgical removal of the last bone on the front feet could cause other problems for cats, said Brian Shapiro of Saugerties, the New York State Director for the Humane Society of the United States.

is this REALLY what they need to spend their time on?
Sometimes declawing is necessary to prevent damage to property and other pets.
A QUALIFIED veterinarian can declaw them without "removing the last bone", but it costs more and takes a little longer (I know, my family had to do that with one cat - and we are adamantly against declawing).

Nice to know all other major issues have been resolved in New York.

So will this also include "modifications" to pure bread dogs as well, like clipping ears and tails? I would not own a clawed cat and this will cripple cat adoptions. My cat has been declawed for 12 years and is quite happy.

Perhaps there's a case to be made for allowing teen/adult males at risk to choose it but forcing it on infants that have no risk of catching an STD is still...well...barbaric.

Just as I thought. Cats have more rights than we do. You can't disarm the cat, after all the cats use their claws for obtaining food, offense and self defense. Same thing people use guns for, except it is ok to "declaw" people (but only if you don't have a criminal record). Remember in NY its illegal for anyone without a criminal record to have a gun.

Heard a guy talk about getting circumcised in his late teens. Said he wished his parents would have just had it done when he was an infant. Wasn’t a pleasant experience.

when you stick it in the hole .. it folds back .. just saying .. unless u have a issue and that can be treated in many ways .. ..

just who did that research ??? .. few docs told me i can't get poison ivy in the winter .. yeh you can if you toss it in the wood stove and catch a wif of smoke in the face .. .. the oil urushiol is on the damn wood it grew on ..

My vet told us taking out all of the (outdoor) cat's teeth was fine because she still had her claws and that was her main weapon anyway (the cat, not the vet).

Of course that cat also spent a month in the basement recovering and now barely wants to go outside. Sigh.
