State Senate passes bill for legislative leader term limits

The state Senate has approved a law that would put in place term limits for legislative leaders.

The bill would impose an eight-year limit for lawmakers to serve as a leader. The legislation would also limit the number of years a lawmaker could serve as a committee chair.

Senator Joseph Griffo, who serves the Rome area, sponsored the bill. He says, "New ideas and new perspectives will always inject new energy into our legislative efforts, and that's why I firmly believe term limits on our leadership positions will help to fundamentally change the culture of Albany."

How about "Term Limits", PERIOD??!!

They want people to think they're doing something. This is just a feel good move. I'm sure there will be people getting all giddy about this, saying "it's a start". In all actuality, unless there are real term limits, absolutely nothing will change!

The other issue with it is you will have more people getting pensions and life time healthcare for 8 years of work. I do think it would limit some corruption though.

Not going far enough. We need term limits for all House and Senate members. No one should be able to serve any political position for more than 8 years
