State Senate votes to allow felons to serve on juries

The state Senate passed a bill Tuesday that will allow convicted felons to serve on juries.

Felons who have completed their full sentencing, parole or supervision periods will be welcomed onto the juror’s bench. There is currently a lifetime ban on felons serving as as jurors..

“When people go through that system, they should be allowed to reenter society,” state Senator Jamaal Bailey (D-Bronx) said during the debate on the bill, which passed 36-25.

I'm ok with that. You're either a threat and should still be incarcerated, or you're not.

ETA the problem is that a lot get out, that maybe shouldn't.

Well, aren't you supposed to be tried by a jury of 'peers' ? - If I were being tried for a 'safe act' crime - I would want GOA, NRA, 2nd Amendment Foundation, JPFO people on my jury.

Eligible yes. But in reality, after the interview process how many will actually be selected.

I would say this is bad. I’d say the felons will sympathize or want to get back at the justice system and vote not guilty.

Hell I’d help out a fellow gun owner and vote not guilty of it was something stupid like a safe act violation.
