So i hope to drive to visit my son in Colorado next summer and would like to, in the meantime, apply for all the required concealed carry permits to travel there. Who here has what permits that are recognized and what were the procedures/ problems you encountered doing so?

Take a ride to Pennsylvania. Bring $ 25 with you. A non-resident Pennsylvania permit will cover a bunch of States you will be going through. Since agreements between States change frequently, and State laws change as well, you're best to start out with information from a reliable source, such as USCCA. They have a map that shows you what States honor what other State's permits. They also have a State by State summary of laws. I would start there.

Looks like getting Colorado and Pennsylvania non-resident permits would have you covered for the whole trip. Other than NY, I just have Utah, so I can't speak to the process.

Getting a Pennsylvania permit is SUPER easy, assuming you have a N.Y. permit that has NO RESTRICTIONS. At least, it is in McKean County. The Sheriff's office in Smethport is the issueing authority. You walk in, fill out a 2 page form, take pics, pay your $20, and a few minutes later walk out with an unrestricted permit good for 5 years. They're even nice enough to send you a reminder a few months before your permit expires.

Forget Colorado. No permits for non residents and no reciprocity with out of state CCW unless you are a resident of the state that Issued the CCW and on the list of approved states. New York is not on that list.

Wow, that's as good as it gets. Out of the states you don't have, WA and CT are the only reasonable ones you could even add. When my UT comes up (for renewal), I'm adding PA for sure, and maybe CT and/or FL, and even with all 5 of those, I'd still have fewer than you do.

Before you take a ride to Pennsylvania for that “super easy” permit check the specific requirements of the county you are going to visit. It can very from super easy to they are only doing non resident renewals but no new non res permits Because covid. Some require appointments. It varies

If you do go to PA, call ahead first to whichever county you're headed to. Not all of them issue non-resident permits.

the firearm is unloaded, and the ammo is located in a separate compartment not easily accessible, and some other bullshit.
Just keep in mind what my attorney always told me: if driving, obey every single traffic law, don't speed, make damn sure every single light on your vehicle works, including your license plate lights, make sure your back up lights are not on while driving forward.
In other words: don't give law enforcement a reason to pull you over, Drive safe, have fun, good luck

Your problems begin when you have an accident or possibly a breakdown (not mental). I was sitting motionless at a toll booth waiting for the car in front of me to pay and move forward. I paid no attention to my rear view mirror at that moment. Out of nowhere some young ditzy college girl comes careening into me from behind. Totaled my car, and my back. Two spinal fusions from that one.
Do your best to get non resident permits for every state you plan to pass through. Sometimes things are beyond your control.
Illinois is the only stickler with this plan as i planned to follow the same as you, Florida and Iowa. Colorado itself is a no fly period as its residents only. I have my son checking into legal open carry for non residents now.

On the PA note, Centre County reputedly does not care if there are administrative notes (aka restrictions) on your NY license.
If you are good to go with open carry the. Just get a nice outside the waist holster and good to go

I have UTAH and PA non-resident (Adams County). You can apply online but you will have to pick it up in person. They will honor ANY NY permit, even those with restrictions and issue a FULL CARRY permit for PA. Mind blown!
