If you need any insight, let me know. I’m no professional but we do catch them every year. My oldest could do charters if he got his shit together. It really is a great opportunity locally to catch some of the biggest fish you may ever catch living inland. Great for the kids as well, they could be pulling in 7-15 lb fish all day with the potential to get a giant, and that’s bigger than anything you’re going to catch around here with the exception of lake trout. Good timesI would love to try striper fishing one day. I’ve never done it. I’m in the Buffalo area so it’s a bit of a drive. Maybe in a year or two I’ll head out that way and do a trip with my son.
They are catching them to the west under the bridges. Guy's are having better luck trolling spoons and mojos. Trolling is not my cup of tea so I'll be chunking around the rocks.Have a boat in Port Chester and the last three or four years have been horrible for stripers & Blues. No fish around and when they are its sporadic. Not like a few years ago for sure. Plenty of bunker, though, but no big fish chasing them.
One of my bosses and his kid went out a few weeks ago, this was the biggest one they caught, the kid holding it is several inches over 6'tall. View attachment 158514
Surprising the action was always hot around Yonkers Ossining & Croton point area.Have a boat in Port Chester and the last three or four years have been horrible for stripers & Blues. We’re at schroon lake, but I’m looking to go in at Champlain this year for Lakers before the dog days of summer set inWent out a couple of times in early May out of Roundout creek and we trolled no bait didn’t get much worth bragging about the the screen looked good. This was the first time I fished for them in years figured we would try before we brought the boat up the Champlain

If you have down riggers you can put in at Westport where there is a nice state ramp and troll off the bay all summer long we usually get them at about 90-100’ with stackers for salmon at about 45-60’ I don’t get fancy with cow bells or flashers I just run spoons plain , right now dark colors seem to be hotWe’re at schroon lake, but I’m looking to go in at Champlain this year for Lakers before the dog days of summer set in
We are right near there at a place called Ideal Campground. The place you speak of us right down the road.Up at camp haven’t gone out yet been doing some work and getting the docks in. Got a few fat mud hens off of Port Henry last weekend. Gonna a see if there still out there in the AM . Years ago we used to camp on the scroon river at a place called wacondha s/p?

I do have downriggers and use them exclusively at Paradox and Schroon lake for lakers but with minimal luck so far. Only been a couple of years doing the trolling thing but do enjoy it. Caught a few here and there but not the action I’d expect on Champlain. And Westport is exactly where I’m dying to go, thanks for the input, greatly appreciated. If you have down riggers you can put in at Westport where there is a nice state ramp and troll off the bay all summer long we usually get them at about 90-100’ with stackers for salmon at about 45-60’ I don’t get fancy with cow bells or flashers I just run spoons plain , right now dark colors seem to be hot
