Struck out in NC

So apparently NC gun shops have a list of places that they cannot sell ANY firearm to residents of without shipping to an FFL.

I've been down here for a few days for a wedding and this morning my father tried to purchase a lever action .30-30. The shop was fully willing to sell it to him, but said they had to ship it. Of course that's not the law but he claimed they have a "list" and of course NY is on it.

Oh well.

I don't blame these shops. If I was an FFL in a free state, I'd probably do the same thing. These laws constantly change yearly from the 4 or 5 blue states every year. I wouldn't bother myself with it whether a muzzle brake is legal in CA but illegal in NY. You pay for it and I'll ship it to your FFL. Let him deal with it.

Laws won't apply in other states because you do not need a background check in other states. All states you need a background check to buy a gun from an FFl.

Yup, it started a whole conversation of course. He did say he feels bad for us and even that since he has to send it to an FFL anyway he'd sell me anything and let them deal with it.

If ever asked for ID while buying ammo in any other state, I will show them my Retired Military ID or my passport.

Sounds like you were in a typical NC pawn/gun shop. LOL Most of the pawn shops down there are half gun shop.

And you're right about their skittishness. I talked with one shop owner down there and he wouldn't even consider shipping to a NY FFL. Said he had no idea what was NY legal and didn't want to know.

But you were there for a wedding. Had to have been at least one drunk redneck at the reception that would have bought it for your dad.

It was a 1/2 pawn gun shop lol. I was suprised that it was a full gunshop. We expected just to see the pawned used guns. They had very few used, it was by far new stuff.
