Student-organized gun forum Saturday
Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A student-organized forum on gun violence is planned for Saturday, April 7th at St. Paul's Cathedral in downtown Buffalo. The town hall-style forum, organized by Students for Action, will take place at 1:30pm and will allow attendees to hear what their local politicians and community members have to say.
Rep. Brian Higgins has agreed to participate in the forum and Rep. Chris Collins has declined in a highly-publicized rejection of the event as organized by "radical partisans". Collins Democratic challenger, Nathan McMurray, is also scheduled to participate.
Organizer Andrew Kowalczyk tells WBEN he and another student will serve as the moderators of the Saturday event.
In a release from the students, they say "the issue at hand will be gun violence and possible solutions to the issue will potentially be proposed".
The event will take place at St. Paul’s Cathedral, located at 139 Pearl Street, Buffalo, NY 14202, and will begin at 1:30 p.m. Students For Action would like to encourage the media, the community, and fellow students to attend and participate in this event. (Y'all been invited.)
Student organizers say the forum acts as a nonpartisan way to discuss issues in our society. Students For Action invites people of all party affiliations, viewpoints, and beliefs to attend and participate. This event is occurring in the wake of Buffalo’s March For Our Lives, which was headed up by students.
