My kids know world history and geography very well. They went to a good school but we also made a routine to have games over dinner like trivia about history, geology, geography, ..and star wars, lord of the rings trivia, etc... too.
Still we do it today when they come home from college.
That type of phisical intellectual and emotional nurishment is the role of the family and will also provide them with memories they will carry for the rest of their lives and hopefully they will do the same with their children and so on....
Dont blame the kids only.
