Stupid thought, can you mount a gun on a boat?

So the other night me and my buddy were discussing his new to him boat. Somehow got on the topic of having a boat gun and it got me thinking. In NYS, could one legally mount a gun on one's boat? Now I am not talking about a machine gun. What I'm talking about is taking a safe act compliant AR-15 and mounting it on a tripod and mounting the tripod on the front of the bow.

Now neither of us have any intention of actually doing this, it is simply for shits and giggles.

My other question is, what about mounting a functioning black powder cannon on a boat?

A neighbor of mine up in Caroga Lake has a black powder canon mounted on his boat. He tarts the boat up like a pirate ship on the 4th and fires the cannon while cruising the lake in the boat parade. It's loud and really cool.

Only if one of the following qualifications are met. It's flying a Coast Guard Flag, It's painted battle ship gray with huge side numbers!

my guess would be that doing any of this, while doing anything else, is also illegal

Maybe not. Tead nys law about definition of loaded gun. Pretty hilarious really.

Not sure you will get around the fed law just cause the boat was stationary if you have a loaded rifle/sg. I bet still not gtg.

ahh, but if you separate the upper from the lower, then its not a gun in NY, right ?

not sure about the fed rules, or how to quickly "disassemble" a 1919 though......
