You cannot shoot someone else's handgun. Legally. Also any kid under 12 cannot handle any firearm. Welcome to NY.

I can remember being 8 or 9 thinking shooting a semi 22 was the coolest thing ever.

NY Penal Law section 265.20 deals with exemptions to the various "criminal possession of a weapon" charges.

One of the exemptions (7-a), allows those licensed to possess a pistol to use and possess another individual's licensed pistol, provided that they are at an actual range and that the licensed owner is present.

THANK YOU for doing the research for me. I knew this was the case since I'd read it in the past, but I couldn't remember where it was stipulated.

You cannot, however, lend a firearm to a friend to take to a range since that would constitute an illegal transfer of a firearm.
