How can an illegal immigrant have any expectation to the protection and rights provided by the US constitution when they’re not US citizens. The constitution applies to everyone subject to the jurisdiction of the US government.

Many of the protections it affords are specifically there to protect people who have been accused of crimes, so it's silly to say it doesn't apply to criminals.

It certainly applies to tourists and other immigrants, so it's silly to say it doesn't apply because you're not a citizen.

I fail to see why combining the two categories would then make it not apply.

I will agree with you that justice must be swift to be just. Leaving these people to languish in jail for months and years is unconscionable.

Our entire justice system has devolved into this quagmire where everything takes years to accomplish, and it denies true justice to both the victims of the guilty and to those who are falsely accused.

The difference is that tourists and legal immigrants are here legally. Illegal immigrants are not. They are fugitives the second they walk into the country.

The difference is that tourists and legal immigrants are here legally. Illegal immigrants are not. They are fugitives the second they walk into the country.

And they are still protected.

The Constitution does not grant rights to people, it protects inalienable rights from being infringed on by the Federal Government. It doesn't discern citizenship. Even an illegal should be afforded the same due process as any other citizen. And then be deported immediately.
