But he was actually impeached for insurrection AND acquitted by Congress... would think he would also have Fifth amendment protection against double jeopardy and being charged again no?Whether you think there was an insurrection or not, the key is trump hasn't been tried and convicted in a court. (To the best of my knowledge no one has been actually charged with insurrection). These left wing assholes just simply state it as if that's all that is required. If that's the new standard then it's obvious Biden is a corrupt traitor and he should be removed from the ticket. But of course if you point that out the liberals are outraged anyone could think that.
Not just him. This was the right ruling. It never should have even got to this point. He has not been convinced in any court of insurrection. It is unjust to hold someone accountable to penalties for actions they have not been convicted of. Full stop.

No. Impeachment is not a criminal or civil trial. Hypothetically let's say Trump was convicted during his impeachment trial - the only thing that would have happened directly as a consequence of the congressional impeachment proceeding is he would have been thrown out of office, nothing more or less. Same with any other president. It's not a criminal or civil trial in any way, shape, or form. But he was actually impeached for insurrection AND acquitted by Congress... would think he would also have Fifth amendment protection against double jeopardy and being charged again no?
Feel free to explore whatever hypothetical scenarios you want but the fact remains Trump was acquitted and not convicted. I agree if he had been convicted the remedy would likely have been limited to removal from office and perhaps disqualification from holding future office. However if that had happened all this talk would be moot would it not? I also agree if he had been convicted he could have been subject to criminal prosecution for the same charge. The fact remains he was acquitted and not convicted. The constitional expressly addresses impeachment AND conviction but leaves out acquittal so it's ambiguous at best. I think it's a pretty safe bet Trump's attorneys would raise this argument should he be charged again in the future leaving the matter for the courts to decide. Here is a pretty extensive opinion by DOJ where even though they ultimately opine a President who has been impeached and acquitted may be prosecuted for the same charge seem to admit in their own conclusion there are some strong arguments supporting a different conclusion.No. Impeachment is not a criminal or civil trial. Since he hasn't had a criminal or civil trial double jeopardy does not apply. Each trial type is It's own "counter". That's why OJ Simpson was found innocent criminally but guilty in civil court, each type is its own thing.
OJ was found not guilty of murder, but liable for wrongful death. They are 2 different things.No. Impeachment is not a criminal or civil trial.
