Performance orientated people tend to dislike Catalytic Converters, but I like them: the exhaust smell from a vehicle without one or defective emissions system is horrid. The added cost to manufacture Emissions compliant vehicles has likely kept pace with inflation, but the technology and reliability has also gotten a lot better...think about it; we've had Emission controls on American vehicles since 1970 and unleaded on;y fuel since the early 80's (1978 was the last year vehicles could be built to use "Regular" Gasoline)
