I have to disagree with this. I think the majority of us did do something, but it's not what your hinting to. I think most of us shrank our circle of trusted friends. We also stepped up our prepping to become more self sufficient. Lastly we stepped up the amount of firepower we had. This can be in the form of new gun, increased ammo supplies and training.

Now the question is why did we do these things. My personal belief was to be ready for when something does happen. Historically speaking there is always a "spark" that ignites the powder keg. The concerning part is both sides are arming up at historical rates. This will ensure that this will be one of the bloodiest times if history if it does kick off.

Nobody will do anything until life gets too burdensome for them. As long as they have food, beer, sex, and internet they are complacent as cows to the slaughter. Take any of that away for long enough and then you might get some response...

But most of those disagreements were in relation to how the union should be established, set up, governed and what rules apply. All those very important structural and formative details have long since been hashed out.

Today as a country we can't decide who we should be anymore. Half wants to become a European wannabe big government socialist state where the constitution is viewed as an old piece of paper, a relic that needs to evolve.

The other half. Is pretty much the exact opposite.

In my opinion our population is becoming so diverse with so many competing goals and ideals that we are approaching the point of needing a divorce.

Look at the crap soros has been pulling he literally has a generation of millenials and government dependents into cop hating, social justice warring, anti America mobs and he isn't in prison but is increasing his pull and clout.

The progressive commies and media who supported Hillary and sanders ideas just got beat and they are extremely butt hurt over it. Thats all we're going to hear The next 4 years is their angry butt hurt rhetoric. They aren't going to just go away. They Wil not abandon their ideology. They will double down on the commie, the hate, the control and the big government and they will use the biased media to spew their crap. They will go off and fester like an untreated yeast infection and at every opportunity will espouse the failures of trump (whether real or artificially construed) and how capitalism, conservative ideas and nationalism are wrong and that the progresive ideas are better. Just wait for the next election cycle when trump is up for re election. Its going to be ugly.

Fair point, but I think everyone has this one threshold you cannot cross. You can go up to that line, but not beyond. To me, those lines include (but may not be limited to)
1) Complete removal of the 2A
2) Installing a government the voters didn't elect because the electors conspired to vote for someone else.
3) Removal of land ownership (one of Marx planks, actually)
4) Bringing back slavery and enslaving Americans of a specific race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.

You will notice #2, which I believe would result in bringing arms against the government. With regard to your example though - in NY and CT (I never lived in CA so cannot speak to that) - you can still have a CCW, still buy AR's and AK's, sidearms, shotguns, and long rifles, and the only restrictions I know of are some features and the trumping of the federal law allowing for ownership of Class III tax stamps.

I am picking up what you are putting down. I just don't think that there are enough of true Patriot Types that would actually step up. Nearly everything the Government is taking away and changing has/is been down so slowly that most just get mad and then they take the change. Time will only tell.

That is correct too - the slow whittling down of rights is the best way for a government to avoid violent civil unrest. But I maintain that there are thresholds where the society will push back violently. It is my belief that even people that do not vote would be offended that their vote is no longer of any value. So if Trump wins but electors install Clinton; I think that causes the bearing of arms among many thousands if not millions of Americans. If every small arm in USA is considered felonious and the 2A is reversed via a constitutional amendment, I feel that too causes bearing of arms among many thousands. And here is the thing - it is further my belief that 68 million American own an estimated 265 to 325 million small arms and that if even one percent of these people bear arms and 99% of the people sit on the sideline; that therefore 680,000 Americans would rise up. There is no way that Washington DC could repel a force of 680,000 small arms; which is why I believe they would never violate the electoral college or remove the second amendment. Politicians must reasonably know that 680,000 small arms owners is more than half the size of the entire standing USA military, much of which is overseas or spread out across America and unable to respond to that insurrection.

I was always told that the reason Hitler never tried to conquer Switzerland is that every citizen was given a K31 Karabiner and shown how to use it; and that he could not fight that entire armed population. I was further taught in school that this was the same reason Hitler never planned to or wanted to conquer USA. That he had no way to invade 3.1 million square miles and fight against 100 million small arms owners. So maybe Americans seem complacent because they just assume that no internal government entity would dare go toe-to-toe with 68 million small arms owners.

They live in places where you cannot get a gun and if they did try to get a full featured AR or AK to go against us and cannot, they would get pissed and join our side.

If they are loading up on bolt guns and 5 round mags, they will still lose. They don't go to ranges, train, ect. If they did, they would see things how we see them.

It would be a slaughter if it truly became an actual war with a group of Liberals on the ground against a group of conservatives on the ground with fully featured rifles and pistols that knew how to use them.

The reason people are complacent is that the perception of losing rights is not that accurate and that we have more rights in USA than any other country on earth. We talk about smaller government and that large government takes away rights (and I am libertarian so I sometimes feel that way); but I feel I am fairly unencumbered by our government (sans perhaps taxation which I feel is excessive at times). I own anywhere from 75 to 150 small arms depending on if i am in buying mode or selling mode. I own anywhere from 50K to 100K rounds of ammo depending on how much reloading supplies I have. I own land (in fact hundreds of acres), I feel safe on the land most of the time (though I have some questions about how LEO can enter without a warrant by using a hunting Warden that doesn't need a warrant), I feel I have freedom of speech, of religion, and have the freedom of sexual choices with consenting adults (though I prefer fairly vanilla women). Due to tax codes and write-offs I have the ability to keep my taxes below 20%, which is far less than European or Asian countries (most of whom embrace communism or socialism). I have never experienced Marshall law, and no rockets fly into my state of NY (like they do in Israel on a daily basis). I feel fairly unrestricted in my travels, even with TSA having to do their checks due to "peaceful Islam". So truly, how exactly am I all that restricted and how exactly are my rights eroding?

But to expand on this a little bit I do think that if SHTF the government or what is left of it would certainly try to arm the progressive part of our population. The destruction associated with this sort of move would be terrifying.

If by destruction you mean a gross increase in accidental discharges, cleaning accidents, mistaken target identity accidents, guns going off all by themselves and all the property damage and loss of life and limb as a result, then yes I would agree, lol.

We have been divided ever since I can remember. This is nothing new. Division has been around since the founding of our nation. The issues may be different from yesteryear, but being split as a nation? Nah, same old hat!

The difference is that we no longer discuss issues. It is impossible for us to find a workable compromise. Any attempt at a real discussion of these issues is met with slogans and juvenile name calling.

I can work with someone who doesn't agree with me about policy, but it requires both sides to actually talk. Even if you don't compromise, you need to at least attempt to understand where the other side is coming from.

When 1/2 of the country is unwilling to even discuss issues and simply labels any dissent as "racist" and anyone who doesn't agree with them "nazis" so that they don't have to even consider their argument there can be no peaceful co-existence.

The government is certainly arming up big time. Every agency has become armed to some degree. It will be interesting to see what a Trump government will do should an upraising occur. If the liberals ever got the gonads to do something other than wine, maybe Trump would arm us as well...
