The question about selling C&R guns from your personal collection and any restrictions comes up often. I called ATF a few years back to get some clarity on buying and selling C&R rifles. The agent was super helpful and answered the question this way: as a C&R license holder you are free to buy and sell rifles to enhance your personal collection but you are not allowed to run a business. So if you decide to sell some items to fund buying others or decide to liquidate your collection and sell everything you are free to do so. Just be sure to keep your records if you are ever asked by the ATF to support your transactions ( and be sure you follow any applicable laws). You can sell to another C&R holder without a BGC as ATF has approved them as a collector also. Sales to non-C&R holders should go through an FFL as normal.

I'll keep this particular post updated with the timeline.
-Dropped my paperwork in the mail to both the Sheriff's Office and ATF on Friday, 3/17
-CLEO copy was signed for at the Sheriff's Office and return receipt dropped in the mail on Monday, 3/20.
-$30 charge to my credit card was processed on Wednesday, 3/22.
-Written acknowledgement from the Sheriff received Saturday, 4/1.

Ok, y'all have motivated me to file for mine as well. Have you guys sent your CLEO copy to county sheriff, or town police chief? From the instructions, it seems left open...

If you're in a municipality with a local police department, it should go to the chief. If not, it should go to the Sheriff.

Received a letter from the Sheriff this afternoon, stating that he received the CLEO copy of my application and is placing it on file with "similar paperwork."
Still no return receipt from the DOJ despite my card being charged 10 days ago.

I Haven't received anything back from my town PD. Nothing from the feds yet either, but that's no surprise.

I got my C&R Permit a year or so ago, Like others have said (One gun bought with your C&R pays for it) plus you can buy things right then & there on the spot with out the background check.
It seams like it took about three months to get it back, once you get it you will recieve a large envelope that has a ton of information about the C&R.
Here in Washington State I can get C&R handguns mailed right to my home. Buy guns when ever you get extra cash, they generally go up in value so they are a good investment and you have them to use. I shoot a bunch of mine, my favorites are the older 22 long rifle, rifles.
To pay for it just don't stop & buy eight cokes through out the year. It's only $10 a year, about seventy-five cents a month.
I did buy a Firearms Acquisition/Disposition book that was listed on E-Bay.

It is worth it if you want to buy a bunch of guns. Also, you have to make sure your log book is all correct. Some places may not honor C&R licenses since you live in NY. I had mine before my dealers license and it paid off big time. Saved me a lot of money. Well worth it even if you only buy one long gun within 3 years.

SKS (a must in my book). There are many variants out there. Several places have Yugos while Russians harder to find and more expensive.

My C&R came in the mail today. I'm already looking at giving some firearms a new home.
