When I was growing up in the 50's, my dad helped a farmer "dig a ditch" to drain a swamp in the middle of a field. He used a whole bunch of 1/4 sticks in the middle of the swamp, graduating to 1/3 and half sticks for the "downhill" portion into a creek. Dunno how he capped it, as I was too young and he wouldn't let me near any of it, (maybe 7) but it was absolutely glorious to watch when he touched it off! I think it kindled my fascination with things that go bang. The 50's were the bomb! Then the 60's came along and fucked it all up.
