Another plea to "do something" that will not stop crimes involving firearms, and will only punish law abiding Americans. No mention that "gun free zones" are target rich environments, that cops are typically at LEAST 15 minutes from any active shooter situation, and that unarmed citizens have few options to stop murder sprees when they take place.

I'm guessing the part about "stronger" background checks as that relates to the school shooting revolves around the fact that the shooter was under medical care for "emotional problems" and might have been prohibited from buying or owning firearms depending on what she was being treated for, and/or was on psychotropic drugs. Obviously the shooter was suicidal and homicidal; was there a record of that? I bet there is.

There is no doubt that the authorities know what she was being treated for, whether she was on heavy medication, what the diagnoses by the "doctor" (read: head shrink) were, and so on.

Its a typical response by authorities who act without disclosing all of the facts to the public. Where is the manifesto and other writings? Where is the information on what the shooter was under medical care for, her meds, and so on? The public has a right to know the details, especially given that these details are relevant via-a-vie the call for more legislation.

The fact that this trial balloon gets floated through news media lapdogs before all of the facts are known to the public is utter bullshit.

Its a very clear indicator that at least some of the politicos in Tennessee are seeing a "crisis too good to waste" moment, and a chance to restrict the Second Amendment in ways they would probably not have felt politically sound before the murder of school children.

Further, how many times have we had an incident like this where the shooter WAS known to law enforcement but the system did not stop the person form obtaining firearms, let alone stop the actual crime? The system doesn't work, but lets take another swing at a problem that has very little to do with the VAST number of Americans who exercise their Second Amendment lawfully every day who are put at risk of government tyranny through the same system that does nothing to impede "gun crime" in any manner.

The only thing "stronger" about the background checks is how invasive they are and how much longer it takes to perform them. If a person is determined to be a risk, yet no one in authority is informed, then stronger background checks are pointless.
So what he really wants is more stringent medical reporting to the .gov. Yet another slippery slope to full on draconian socialism. Eventually having issues like depression or hypertension or any other "key factors" will permanently erase your rights.

And as for the Red Flag laws, I hope they pass it, and I hope this governor is the first victim of it.

A red flag law wouldn't have stopped the transfreak from committing the crimes. She bought her guns legally, and according to the Nashvlle cops and FIBs she was not on the radar in any way before she murdered those children so there was nothing (they claim) that would have flagged her.

So my original headline stands. Lee clearly wants to punish lawful Tennessee citizens for the evil crimes of murderer.

I bet he's part of the roadblock keeping the transfreak murderess manifesto from seeing the light of day too, given this information on his soft on crime attitude.

I would ask how trash like this guy ends up governor of a deep red state, but the answer has been apparent for awhile now. I understand your point about political parties. IIRC the founders warned about them referring to the danger of "factions". I just don't see how we can avoid them. People with common interests are likely to join together for political purposes.

It's not defending him. I don't support him pandering to the gun grabbers at all, but everything else I see from him says that's all it is. He can do it safely though, if the legislation is never going to land on his desk in the first place.
