In the article I read, he states that there will be no mask mandate or mandatory capacity limits. He’ll leave to business owners to decide how they want to run their businesses. And if they don’t like their restrictions, they are free to shop , eat , etc elsewhere. He says businesses do not need the state telling them how to run their establishments. Everyone in Texas has been practicing COVID prevention for a year and are responsible for themselves.

If you are willing to accept the risk and want to live your life, well then you should. If your one of those who for some reason are not comfortable exposing yourself to risk then stay home. But for God sake don't be a karen and tell others what to do you have no right to tell people how to make their own decisions. If someone not wearing a mask ruins your day then stay home so you don't have to put yourself in that situation.

I have friends who work in the prisons, I asked them if the prisoners' have to wear masks, they said no. they dont wear masks. the guards have to.

Agreed. People have the "risk" completely backwards. And like it or not, the way we phrase this junk does nothing but perpetuate it.

Those masks are good for protecting your nose and mouth from direct entry of someone else's snot, puke, and arterial blood spray. That's the "risk" we take by not wearing one. That's why "six feet" is the alternative to a mask. Most people can't sneeze that far. The masks do nothing to protect us from someone else's aerosol plumes and virus clouds.

If people need to reduce their risk, the answer is a fit-tested face mask with a HEPA filter. Nothing less. You and I wearing cheese cloth on our face does not reduce their risk. You and I standing 6 feet away does not reduce their risk. Them, wearing professionally fitted HEPA filter, reduces their risk.

The "you need to wear a mask for the sake of those at risk" crap... does nothing but kill those who are at risk, because they are told a piece of cheese cloth will mitigate that risk. And we help them do it, when we perpetuate the myth that the puke-stopping masks we don't need to wear, are masks they should wear.

And I apologize that I can't phrase it better. When those dickwads came out with, "wear TWO masks", every one of them belongs in prison, right next to Cuomo. Every one of those pricks accidentally pointed out that only a HEPA or better will work, and that they knew it. And they knowingly told people who were legitimately at risk, that some garbage paper puke stopper would mitigate that risk.

Actually I'm OK with this. There are XX% of people that feel that way, and that's their right as consumers to expect the store to be run a certain way and if not they can take their business elsewhere that fits their requirements to do business there. If there are enough of them that feel that way that the stores put a mask requirement in place and if you don't like the mask requirement you are free to go to a place that doesn't require them. If no businesses deem "no mask required" financially viable, then that's just too bad for you. The same works the other way too mind you... if businesses think that "no mask required" is better for business then the pro-mask people can go have a cry about it and take their money elsewhere.

There's a reason that I wear a North 7700 with P100 particulate filters and not some surgical mask. The other reason is I had it laying around from doing remodeling in my home in an area with asbestos. Cheaper, easier, and more effective to get P100s than disposable N95s. I worked in a plating plant at for about a year when I was 20 so I know how to fit them.

100% agree here as well. Giving people a false sense of security which leads them to take risks they shouldn't be taking is morally reprehensible. It's one thing to make a mistake and provide bad guidance (and that's still pretty bad), but it's something in another class when it's an intentional misleading of people that has a very real chance of leading to their injury or death. Personally, I think intentionally misleading people regarding matters of their health should be classified as a criminal act.

Foldable N95s or KN95s I think are really the sweet spot. I've got a couple packages of them. Why? I can keep a brand new one in my jacket in the inside pocket, and it molds to my face basically and makes a decent seal. Even assuming a less than stellar fit, that's till a 90% reduction, compared to, at best, 30% with a surgical mask with a nose wire. (And I looked up the FDA lab tests on the brand to confirm it's not bullshit either, which they do every few months)

The other flip side to this is I can let the masks dry between periods of short usage for days at a time, beyond the 72 hour viability for COVID.

Given the convenience, and substantial reduction, this is really the sweet spot between spending and portability to take it with me.
