Yeah, but think about a highly skilled soldier on a critical mission with a practically "can't miss" sniper rifle. Terrorist leader? Buh-bye....We need dumber phones and smarter people.
Same applies to weapons.
The Iowas had that in WWII.The big gun ( Mk V ) on the Cutter I was stationed on compensated for pitch and roll of the ship, distance, heading of the target and the different ballistics of the various ammunition being used. All the aiming was done by radar. And that was more than 35 years ago.
The USCGC Northland WMEC 904 isn't in the same class as the Iowa in any regards, but for the mission it was designed, it performed well enough. The big gun was, as I recall, a 76mm. The ship only had the one turret. It could however, sink anything big enough to register on radar from a very long distance. It really was rather impressive. The Iowas had that in WWII.
It took an entire room on the ship to do it, and was as much mechanical as electrical (and definitely not electronic) but they had it.

Lets hope the UI is better than the ATN scopes that have been doing this for over a decade.2.7 billion for 250,000 pieces so whats the math on that per unit? So a scope with built in range finding and BDC ... This is not rocket science and should have been out years ago. link says Guaranteed hit smart scope ... I call BULLSHIT! How are they reading the wind? Kentucky wind-age will apply. All things considered looks like a nice toy to save up for. I Wonder if it can track rounds to target and adjust POA on the fly, hat would be impressive.
