Biden orders U.S. to stop financing new carbon-intense projects abroad​

WASHINGTON, Dec 10 (Reuters) - The Biden administration has ordered U.S. government agencies to immediately stop financing new carbon-intensive fossil fuel projects overseas and prioritize global collaborations to deploy clean energy technology, according to U.S. diplomatic cables.

"The goal of the policy ... is to ensure that the vast majority of U.S. international energy engagements promote clean energy, advance innovative technologies, boost U.S. cleantech competitiveness, and support net-zero transitions, except in rare cases where there are compelling national security, geostrategic, or development/energy access benefits and no viable lower carbon alternatives accomplish the same goals," a cable said.

"The administration has elevated climate change as a core tenet of its foreign policy," a State Department spokesperson said on Friday in response to a request for comment on the cables. The commitment made in Scotland "will  reorient tens of billions of dollars of public finance and trillions of private finance towards low-carbon priorities, " the spokesperson said.

The move underscores how the Biden administration has made fighting climate change one its most urgent policy priorities. Yet the approach creates a major opening for China, which is eager to fund and finance energy projects around the world, often with sums of money the U.S. has been unable to match.
Nevertheless, the policy shift could affect a significant number of potential foreign projects, including terminals in eastern Europe and the Caribbean to receive shipments of U.S. natural gas. It also goes beyond constraining financial aid and rules out other, softer forms of government support, including diplomatic and technical assistance that benefits developers of pipelines, liquefied natural gas terminals and other projects overseas.

Many environmental activists welcomed the plan but stressed the effort should be complemented by a boost in U.S. climate aid overseas. “If the exemptions are implemented in good faith, this guidance should end almost all U.S. international finance for fossil fuels,” said Bronwen Tucker, global public finance campaign co-manager at the environmental group Oil Change International.

None of this makes any sense... so you are going to limit clean burning fuels like LP, NG, Hydrogen, etc for it to go sky high.... meanwhile, instead, people are burning more wood and other junk that pollutes way more because the price is so high.

This is the first year I have broke out burning more wood than usual and we aren't even into January.

So burning wood is cleaner than me burning LPG? I don't think so.

I also found out that a majority of new homes don't have traditional wood burners (wood stove or fire place).

I can see help sent to construct a port so we can sell natural gas . A win for our exports. Joe is just by shutting this down supporting Putin as a boost to their energy industry. .

There are sound reasons why we abandoned use of our LNG tankers. LNG carriers have not been built in the United States since the 70s and no LNG carriers are registered under the U.S. flag. Their use near any population center make Chernoybol nuke designs with positive thermal reactivity coefficients look safe in comparison.
