How did I miss this? Birdshot will just piss your attacker off. The pellets will not penetrate deep enough to strike vitals, bleeding will not be severe enough to cause rapid incapacitation from the drop on blood pressure. I won't argue this fact though, the evidence is out there if one cares to look. If not, no skin off my nose.

Many many moons ago when I was a medic student I was at an ME clinical and one of the autopsies was of a person who was shot at point blank range (a suicide) square in the sternum with #7 12ga bird shot. The muzzle was close enough for the entrance wound to look like a 12ga slug. What surprised me was there was no exit wound even at that range the chest cavity and related organs and tissue absorbed all the pellets, not one made it out. I would not want to test the effectiveness of bird shot from 7 yards out let alone 10 or 15 if my life was on the line.
