I buddy picked up a FN 509 and I had a chance to shoot it. I also shot another guys VP9 and my G26. Please dont that is as any type comparison or a which ones better thing, just sharing my experience at the range tonight. Before I start I must say I never shot a 509 before tonight and the VP9 I have fired a couple of mags in the past. Before heading to the range I asked you buddy who has the 509 if he could bring his 19x because I would have liked to shoot them back to back since they are very similar in size . Unfortunately he was already at the range when I asked and he did not have the 19x.
The 509 felt nice in the hand the trigger also felt nice while dry firing with a nice reset. I fired 10 rounds out of it right away at my buddies target and it shot nice but I was shooting low. I was not thrilled with the sights but that might just be a get used to them sorta thing. The owner was shooting the 509 so I was going to have to wait to run some more round through it. So I pulled out my 1911 to pass the time and found that I was not shooting all that great tonight. Not trying to make any excuses as we all have had better and worse shooting nights.
Once I could get my hands on the 509 I decided I would shoot it back to back with my G26 just for fun. We all know that these two pistols should not be compared and also am familiar with my pistol with the sights that I prefer while the 509 was completely new with sights that I would need some time to warm up with. I set the target at 10 yards and alternated pistols every mag shooting as fast as I could find the sights. I was not target shooting!!!
Shortly after shooting the two pistols another buddy cam in and had his VP9 with a light attach so I figured why not throw some rounds through it too. I only fired 20 rounds through it, also shooting it as fast as I could see the sights. I must say I did come away a fan of that pistol. I really liked the way it felt and the way the trigger felt.
You guys know by now I alway post pics but tonight I am including pics of the targets too... Now please dont consider this any sort of accuracy contest. By no means should the G26 be compared to these pistols and remember I have quite a few round through it. The 509 and VP9 were unfamiliar to me to make any fair comparison. I would bet if I spent any time with them I would shoot them much better.
