I never understood the required reporting for loss or theft. Is there another private possession that one is mandated to report loss? Its not like the police are going to actively look at it, the only time they will find it is after another crime as been committed. When they arrest a gangbanger with your stolen pistol are you going to get it back or is it just going to become evidence that eventually gets destroyed?

So lost and stolen firearms are leading causes of gun violence? I’d say the criminal element is. How many lost guns are there? I’ve never found one or lost one. Of stolen guns are an issue why has NYS made it so easy for criminals to get names and addresses of those with pistol permits. We have to show our permit and identification for everything now. Names and addresses will be published unless you opt out. They are trying to intimidate us.

I'm sure some will say, "a life is more valuable than some stuff". Yeah, well I say my car is more valuable to me than the life of a criminal trying to steal it. A car provides me a really good ability to travel and to also make a living and support my family. A criminal that steals my car provides me no benefits and actually inhibits my ability to travel and make a living. So yes, my car *IS* more valuable than said criminal. If my car disappeared tomorrow I'd have a big problem. I can't say the same about a thief.

Put up signs that prohibit using guns for crime in the areas where gun crime is currently a problem.

Also, they should require gun thieves to have mandatory gun insurance before they're allowed to steal a firearm.
