Deplorable Me
.700 Nitro Express
I'm not a fan of tube feed reloading. Still it's a lever action speed shooting.
A lot of cowboy action shooters have leather wrapped levers for that very reason. I purchased some soft deer Skin leather and made my own Wrap for my Rossi .44 mag. Lever gun. If you search fleabay you should be able to find kits already made up to wrap the lever. In the last video, I think I see the loop with some kind of wrap on it. Maybe not, but I think that's the key to running one fast and efficient.
I've shot Henrys, Marlins, Rossis, Brownings and Winchesters and one Winchester in particular had an action that was buttery smooth and cycled like nothing else. Still, running that specimen for fast followups would be even better with a leather wrap IMO.
I might even try some of the rubber tool dip stuff on the loop to save my mitts in a stressful HD event.
I mean, I’d rather have my side loading Henry 30/30 than a handful of rocks. I fact, I think it’d be downright terrifying from the wrong end. But I’d still feel much more confident with a semi auto if I had the luxury of choosing.
Imagine some Antifa rioters break into your house and you grab your phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt rangeYes nobody would argue with that, a firearm is a firearm. Also imagine if one was in the revolutionary war and instead of a muzzle loader you had that Henry 30/30, one would be like a fire-breathing God.
People just need to think that if there are the type of threats that might fire back at you, you have to analyze this pragmatically and with realistic situations in mind.
The spoon is best to eat the soup no matter how much we like the fork.
I’d hunt with that Winchester in a heart beat. There’s nothing more enjoyable than challenging yourself hunting with nostalgic hunting equipment. During the regular season I’ll often go out With just a .44 mag. Wheel gun. Like hunting with traditional archery equipment you need to hone your hunting skills when using less modern equipment.I love my '65 Winchester 1894, it was a gift from my FiL and my first deer rifle (though I never got the chance to fire it at a deer and have moved on to better for me options).
It does not fill an HD/SD role for me because it does not have to.

Yeah in this sense it is damn good. Just not as good as mcloskey with an ARSome people have probably decided that now is the time to arm up, because they never thought they'd need to, but now they've seen riots they never could have imagined happening in places just like they live.
Now they go down to the big box gun store and the shelves are picked clean.
That 30-30 lever action might be the best thing left that they can find both a gun and ammo for and take home tonight.
If they're in that circumstance, the lever action *is* the best HD gun.
The single most important quality in a HD gun is that it is available when you need it.
The .30-30 is decently powerful, handy, and light recoiling. Powerful enough at close range to keep you safe from some pretty big animals with 170 grain bullets. Will put down a moose within 150 yards. A good back country truck gun. My family can't seem to keep a 170 in a deer. I mean, a big, 200lbs field dressed buck shot front ways through the chest and the bullet exited out of his keister and kept going. Low velocity + heavy bullet means deep penetration.
I want more. Maybe a .35 someday.
A .44 mag is a nice option too. Pretty good stomper at close range.
A .357 I view as another all around gun. .38s are great for teaching small stature women and kids. You can also take rabbits and such with .38s. With .357 you have a defensive option and a deer rifle with 100 yards with a 10 round capacity.
I like them for truck/surivial options. Handy, short, and more capable on animals than 5.56.
Is that a side gate on a Henry .357? I need to catch up on my reading.Trying to control the urge to buy one of the new Henry Big Boy X Model in 357/38 to pair with my 357 Ruger revolver.
