Personally I could. Really I think if any of us had our kid shot in a school we'd have a different view on it. Similarly if we had used a gun to stop a home invasion we'd be even more pro gun than ever before. Does that mean it's the correct view in either case, not necessarily, but experience guides opinion.

Over time my view on abortion has changed and also on capital punishment. And even guns. I used to have a far more liberal perspective as a young adult.

The media hysteria over every mass shooting is the force behind this. The coverage and commentary stresses that only an outright ban could stop mass shootings. There is no nuance in the coverage so there is no middle ground in the debate. I have tried a couple of times to engage people but they simply cannot keep their emotions in check.

We won't get to a middle ground until the media spreads the truth that more people are killed by knives or fists than by rifles.

Most people who are anti gun are anti gun out of ignorance. They have been sold a false narrative and believed it because nobody has shown them the alternative.

Most people who are pro gun actually know a little about the subject.

So, I think most anti's can be converted if they are shown the facts. Not so in the other direction.

Ignorance breeds anti-gunners, but once you are enlightened you are unlikely to suddenly "forget" that an AR isn't a machinegun for instance.

That might be correct assuming you really were ignorant to the fact that those intent on shooting up a school couldn’t do it with a bolt actions, levers, pumps, multiple revolvers, or pistols.

You’d then also have to be ignorant to the fact that if there was a 100 percent gun ban in this country, people would be able to get them smuggled in from Mexico or Canada or make them themselves to sell on the black market just like drugs.

Any one of our kids can go buy drugs in the black market. They would be able to do the same with guns if they wanted to shoot up a school.

There really should be no middle ground on the issue of the Second Amendment and the ownership of guns. There can, and should be some guidance within the 2A. I believe that. Not more laws and banning of certain types of firearms. This can not work unless all guns are taken from the shores of America. This can and never will occur.
