New York state lawmakers have introduced legislation that would require businesses along the New York State Thruway to stay open every day, including Sundays.​

The bill claims that being closed on Sundays is a “disservice and unnecessary inconvenience to travelers.”

“While there is nothing objectionable about a fast food restaurant closing on a particular day of the week, service areas dedicated to travelers is an inappropriate location for such a restaurant,” the bill states, in part. “Publicly owned service areas should use their space to maximally benefit the public. Allowing for retail space to go unused one seventh of the week or more is a disservice and unnecessary inconvenience to travelers who rely on these service areas.”

I agree...if your a food providor in a rest stop along a thorough fare like that.....people sorta expect you to be open so weary travelers can get something to eat and take a "REST STOP" before getting back on the road....to have a restaurant or fast good joint NOT open for travelers is stupid........you should have an options and not this not open sunday crap...its your right to be closed fine BUT YOU SHOULDNT be tapped to be on the THRUWAY if you are...I mean really........its stupid....should left it to MC D;s...open late and 7 days a week for travelers...my nickels worth. If hochul or her friends need to fill their pie holes (with something other than chicken or a cock) she could simply do what most any other communist-totalitarian government would do... open up state owned and run eateries along the thruway. I agree with Livingston, there are typically multiple choices and you can't always have all of them open in a snow storm, 24-7 or at 3 am because things happen, staff gets sick, etc. If you have demand for Chick Fil-A and you contract with them, you are aware that Sunday is not covered and you should also contract with another choice that will still be available when Chick Fil-A is closed.

I am not big on fast food, but I plan trips around Chick Fil-A since the closest to me is in Syracuse near the airport. They always treat you well. I was there sitting in a booth before lunch and had to wait 20 min for them to do the change over from breakfast when the manager came over and made sure I had a free beverage (coffee with cream) while I waited.

Typical of our government to change the rules after contracting with someone because they can, regardless of the consequences. I hope that their rules change means that Chick Fil-A gets contract penalty money from the state if they want it.

I believe it's for future contracts. Most of my time spent on the thruway is at night. Mostly because it's easier driving with less traffic to deal with. Restaurants at the rest stops are almost never open. There are, however, vending machines available for use. That fact invalidates the states argument.

For as much hate as they get, I've never seen a Chick-fil-A empty on a day they're open. In fact, the line usually wraps around the building.

Last time going west in Nov, I stopped at the Clarence Applegreen to piss...................enitrely run by BLM.......................AND THEY SOMEHOW SCREWED UP THEIR WATER SUPPLY............despite being in the lee of lake Ontario and Erie and the Niagara River, and ON MUNICIPAL WATER............................they sounded the emergency beacon to evacuate............I was on the can and refused to comply until I did my hochul ,and of course the crapper would not flush...not my problem...........angry BLM kept at me to move and get out..no fire.......... just someone shut off the water????
