I would think if a contract breaks a law then the contract isn’t legally binding. Now how does that play into this since the contract deal was legal when signed I don’t know.
I think it's more of the usual grandstanding. The contract with applegate is for 33 years. It sounds as though Chick-fil-A will be good to go for the duration that contract. Note- I have not seen any details of said contract so I could be wrong.

The whole thing is silly. NYS knows they don't open Sundays. They don't even open the one in Mercedes-Benz stadium on Sunday for football games.
With all the toll booths gone now,.its just as easy to hop off at any exit. Theres hardly any other rest areas in the country that even HAVE restaurants available. GYF NY

More or less my take as well. If you demand certain hours of operation then include it in the contract up front as a requirement. IMO, unless it was there at the start NY is in breach of contract by trying to add this on. Hours of operation are not a minor factor for businesses, they are a primary budgeting factor.
I don't really care for their food, take it or leave it for me, but this is an unfair business change.

From another article it sounds like Applegate's requirement from NY was to have 1 hot food option available which it complied with.
I would hope Applegate would sue NY because NY is not liking the deal they (NY) made with Applegate. It sounds NY is now trying to change the law because it didn't like the contract they (NY) made with Applegate.
If it passes, Chick Fil A and Applegate together should sue the crap out of NY. No government should be able to pass a law to change a contract it made with a company because the government suddenly doesn't like it.

Let me start by saying I hate NY policy on everything. That is a barometer for me. If NY isn't happy, I am. It's sad that this is a big deal to NY that they choose to close. People really can't travel unless they eat ChickFilA? Like the world is going to spontaneously combust if they can't get their fast food? G-d forbid people prepare for travel and pack something in their vehicle for when they are hungry lol. I use rest stops for two things. Gas and bathrooms. Don't know how but I somehow manage to get by when I travel without depending on the places that serve "food."

Has anyone eaten at a thruway Chic-fli-a? I made the mistake of eating at one at albany Airport, it was unfriendly, a long wait, barely edible and a limited menu. Nothing like going to a real one.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, (but I'm not...I travel the t-way daily) most every exit on the t-way has some type of food establishment within spitting distance of what used to be toll booths! Some are genuine Mom & Pop joints that could use the Sunday business!
Most of the garbage that has been pumped out at the state/federal level has been like this. Could you imagine what could be accomplished if even half the effort was put into real, useful legislation rather than what it's currently spent on?
I like that barometer. I'm fact, I use it myself. When we travel, we have at least one meal with us and a bunch of snacks. It's half the fun of going on a road trip. I'd much rather find a nice parking area with a nice view and eat a lunch outside than eat in a scuzzy thruway restaurant. Besides, I like being able to pronounce the ingredients that make up my food. Try getting that at any fast food place.
