So I took my 45-70, that seemed to jam up a lot, to Van Tassel's gunsmith shop last Tuesday. I dropped it off and asked the gunsmith (Dennis) if he could fix it.
He immediately told me, "if it needs parts, you're basically SOL, there aren't any parts to be had"
So I said, "when you get around to it, do what you can, I love the gun but, IDK what to do if you can't fix it"
So Dennis called today and said "it's all fixed, the problem with your gun IS YOU!!!! I was like "what?"
He said "stop babying this thing, get angry at it, and rack it like you mean it. I suspect you're racking the lever like you want to catch the shells. stop doing that and pump the lever like you mean it" I ran 3 rounds through with no problem, and you owe me $15"
I said , ok then. I went there and Dennis wasn't there but Mary was, and a very nice young lady at the counter. I asked if they knew dsdmmat, ( I used his real name) and of course, Mary knew who I was talking about. And she asked how I knew him. I said "he's a moderator of NYgun forum, I have been posting for years, but only, physically met a few people from the forum." She smiled and said he should be coming back for Memorial Day"
So big guy, DSDMMAT, the Van Tassel's are looking forward to seeing you. and I told Mary and the nice lady behind the counter that "Im now going to go back to the cabin, put on my big boy panties and make this gun work" they both seem to get a chuckle out of that.
and guess what, Dennis was right. slam that lever hard, and the gun works just fine. Lesson learned. stop being pussy and hammer the thing
