Was there really a need to update the old design?
Perhaps to get around a patent ? Just happy to see that they will be made again. When one sees old reviews some issues were with frost bite ... . You need to change your socks everyday to prevent that as moisture from your feet will give one problems ... one of the complaints were traction so perhaps this issue is being addressedWas there really a need to update the old design?
One of the biggest problems that few really realized is/was Training on how to properly, effectively use extreme cold weather gear; we were issued "Mickey Mouse Boots" but not knowing about or being issued Socks, Powder, inflating them, etc. rendered them more hindrance than help.Perhaps to get around a patent ? Could you give us a quick lesson on how to use them properly .I have worn the mickey boots but not in -20 and not all day...i like to get the best winter gear i can purchase. I have been broken down in a truck at 1 am in cold winter night and a service truck does not arrive for several hours. If not prepared things go down hill very fast. One of the biggest problems that few really realized is/was Training on how to properly, effectively use extreme cold weather gear; we were issued "Mickey Mouse Boots" but not knowing about or being issued Socks, Powder, inflating them, etc. rendered them more hindrance than help.
The ones we were issued were likely left over from Korea, even then IIRC they were fully serviceable....Two weeks in the Field at -20F and you will learn a few things.
It's been 35 years since I wore them in the Field, but what I'm certain of now, I had no clue to then: I was a Southern boy who'd never seen real snow or temps below 30 degrees. What I'm sure of now is they have to be properly inflated, you've got to wear good, heavy wool/blend socks to keep your feet dry....and the inflating keeps an air barrier and also keeps the boots from shifting around causing blisters and hot-spots while walking.Could you give us a quick lesson on how to use them properly .I have worn the mickey boots but not in -20 and not all day...i like to get the best winter gear i can purchase. If there are improvements then maybe. The old design is around 60 years old at this point and theres always room for improvement in anything over such a long time. I would hope that they arent simply cutting corners in a way that wouldnt have been accepted when the originals were designed.Perhaps to get around a patent ?
