If I leave my firearm of the counter and Bad Guy breaks in and my wife shoots him/her/it, is my wife in trouble?

If the shoot is good and inside the home I’d say she’s fine. Obviously you could get some shitbag da but if necessary I think a decent lawyer could make one hell of an argument about your wife being a victim. Da’s also look at if they think a jury would convict and I would think you’d have a hard time finding a jury that would come back with a guilty charge.

And I think I remember seeing a case or two similar to this and they came out fine. Could be wrong. Horrible memory.

she absolutely hates the shotguns, way to much recoil for her. She shot a friends AR some years ago, she loved that. She likes the 22cal. rifle and pistol.

The predator then overtly proceeds to pose a lethal threat to your defenseless wife. After a panicked struggle for her life, the bad guy is shot until they are no longer a threat to her life and well being.

If any charges come out of a scenario painted this way, it's about politics and not justice.

Your wife will have no problem getting a permit as she already has access to the firearms. A good reason for her to have a permit is should you die she can legally possess.
You should get her a 20 ga. shotgun and take her shooting with it at cans or milk jugs until she is reasonably comfortable with it and knows how to load and clear it etc..
