I know it probably will still be prohibited for NYS residents to have suppressors but the time is now to make the process for obtaining them easier.

I love the well it will allow you to kill more people better and faster. A bomb is the most efficient way to kill people not a gun. I would love to get a silencer. Since we live in nys I would say it won't happen either. Too bad though.

Ssshhhhh! Dont tell anyone. Supersonic ammo is only silenced by 32ish dB. Which means it sounds like you are wearing earpro.......ssshhhh!

I think the purchase of suppressors will become easier. However, I believe the only thing that will change will be the wait time for the purchase will be shortened, maybe instant with a PP of some sort. Think about it, does anybody really believe the government is going to let the $200 tax stamp go away.
If they make the purchase instant there will be more people purchasing them, even with the $200 fee. Most people that do not buy a suppressor is not due to the $200 tax stamp, but rather the fact that they can't take possession of their purchase for 6-9 months.

If they make this quicker/easier the demand will go way up, and that is a good thing.

There's is a local suppressor manufacturer down here that does really well ( Home - PTP Tactical ), and they just added another shift. I know the Fellas that own the company, and they are pretty good guys with a hell of a product. I've shot using their products down here, a suppressed handgun is pretty cool. Just think what their business would be like if the government lightens up!!

i disagree. the push is to get it removed from NFA altogether. it should be just like buying any muzzle deceive. you should be able to walk in and buy it like you do a flash hider....no way it should be a firearm....let alone an NFA item.

the IRS gets the money....not the ATF. so in reality, compared to all teh IRS monies this is a small addition.......the ATF/NFA really needs the money because they are the ones processing the paperwork....talk about not getting paid for extra work

Crimlas want compact and concealable ... which part of a suppressor does that? It doubles the length of a pistol.

Yes they do. They do it by mitigating the gasses coming out the muzzle, thus not (less) affecting the bullet flight. Similar to why a crowned (no device) muzzle is more accurate than a barrel with a muzzle device.

Why that is my point good sir! The hearing protection act is such a no brainer that even brainless democrats will have difficulty getting traction against it I belive. I think the antis will be focused more on reciprocity, or perhaps a shiny object.

Your saying the Supressed bench rest rig will shoot the best groups? vs when it's just a crowned rig and the least accurate a properly installed compensator?

It would make a great thread and one fun real world test. The key to bench rest is consistency allot of that having to do with recoil management. A Suppressor does that extremely well, I'd argue it does not make the intrinsic accuracy of a barrel any more accurate.

Agreed. But it's always interesting to have some hard data to pour over. We could use more range time experiments and documentation around here. A good way to highlight your point would be to compare offhand vs bench rested shooting while suppresed and unsupressed.

it increases velocity, so yes, that i can see, it would add yardage, is that what they mean by accuracy? extending effective range? I would argue that it didn't make the rifle more accurate but only did what a longer barrel would do with the extra velocity. If it raises the velocity at a specific range and prevents the bullet from going transonic then yes that makes sense. but the gun isn't more accurate now, the bullet just isn't de stabilizing as early as it normally would.

catch 22, either way you get a longer rifle to extend the range. with the suppressor at least you get more comfortable DB levels.

I'm curious on the effects of adding velocity with a can right at the point the barrel friction begins to work against velocity.
