Open carry IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS is not only perfectly acceptable, it is also advantageous.

In the setting of the OP - hiking a trail, I think open carry is both perfectly acceptable and smart. On the trail of a giant park where the threat of a mountain lion or venomous snake is very real, the easy accessibility of a defensive weapon would be highly advantageous.

Walking around at a festival or in your local grocery store ? No, concealed is a much better option in my opinion. But to say that open carry is stupid and nothing more than dick waving is just obtuse.

Btw, according to what I can find, you can hunt mountain lion, but you can only take SIXTY in a season......... just how many cougars are out here? WTF?

I disagree. We do not live in the wild west. We do not live in a war zone. I don't think open carry is appropriate unless you're in the woods or in the desert completely by yourself.

I think we want to at least attempt to give the image that we are civilized people. I don't believe that open carry in a city or suburban area works with that idea. I have no problem with open carry being illegal. At least in densely populated areas.

This will be my final comment on this topic.

Not to split hairs, but some areas of some cities in our country are considered war zones by some residents.

In the end, IMHO open or concealed should be left up to the individual. Regardless, personally I'm more of a CC kind of guy.

come on out here, in the desert. With cougars ( the furry kind ) Bighorn sheep, rattle snakes ( not that big a deal, with how cold it is ) scorpions and coyotes. Coyotes are the big issue, them hungry little shits will attack anything they think they can take down and eat. Einstein never goes outside, especially at night, without me and my Glock. If the coyotes sound like they're within a couple miles, I'll take the shotgun.

Some areas in some of our cities are more dangerous to live in than an infantry barracks on a base in Afghanistan.

They're *worse* than a war zone.

Frankly, if I had the option to open carry right now, I would, especially if it meant not having to deal with the bullshit that is getting a CCW.
