This was a two book series and I thought it was absolutely fantastic.

I think he did a fantastic job throughout the entire book./

I think there may have been 3 or 4 books in that series of different characters on overlapping storylines

The double edged sword that tends to be overlooked is TIME: Now since presumably nobody is working a regular job you now have more time to dedicate to making provisions and improvements, the other side is now you don't have time to do a lot of the cool, life improving things you want to do, especially if there are Considerable Security Concerns or you're a one man Band.....Ever wonder why Farmers, Amish, Mennonite, and others have huge Families? Really, there a a few around here with ten or more Children, and many of them are married and having Babies long before their youngest sibling reach puberty.

Lack of anything else to do after dark probably has something to do with that....

No TV, no internet, and no birth control = enormous families

Ever wonder why Farmers, Amish, Mennonite, and others have huge Families?

No, never wondered. I've actually always watched this way of life. Both sets of my grandparents lived in very small towns, in very rural areas.

The house I'm in now, dating to the early 19th century, is the oldest on this road. There may have been a few others that have come and gone, but the road is long, and I'm at the top of it. I can only imagine the original acreage that accompanied this house's 10 bedrooms.

Pre answer, no this was never an inn or tavern as far as I am aware.
