Ukraine has a modern professional military.

They're not giving these to a bunch of guerrillas.

Also, they shouldn't need too much complex maintainence in the first month or two. By then their mechanics can be trained up on the new gear.

The last US Army unit to leave Ukraine just before the invasion was training them on the 155mm towed artillery gun and counter battery radar units.

I got some bad news for you, a lot of their professional army is dead or captured. I know the media reports are only a few Ukraine killed but its a hell of lot more than that. They lost 12-14000 of thier best in Mariupol alone. Where are training the new soldiers? It aint Ukraine. thier bases have all been hit hard , thier airforce is almost gone. they had to get more tanks from the Polish because most of thier armor is gone too. The only place they are making any headway is in the North where the Russians have pulled back and the media is playing it as if they won some gigantic battles there. they didnt , the Russians left. watch what happens in the donbass in the next week or two. the Ukrainian defenses are crumbling. they cant supply thier men there.

Those big guns need a lot of care, If they break , they need parts and guys to fix them tough to get either. Shit tends to break when they are under a lot of use. Ask an artillery guy.

The size of the ukranian military before this shit show started was on the order of 200k men.

Certainly they are strained, but I wouldn't say they are any closer to collapse than the Russians.

I am sure they are still capable of basic maintainence on vehicles and armor.

If it needs depot level overhaul, they could always outsource. We sold or leased them the tanks, surely they can ship them back to the dealer for major service.

Basic maintenance is not so easy , if you need tranny fluid and there is no tranny fluid .

They are collapsing in the Donbass, not the whole country , they are running into a similar dilemma that Russians did in the North , keeping the lines of supplies open. The Russians dropped some key bridges behind the Ukrainians and the supply lines are stretched to the max . While the western press insisted the Russians are finished , they took a page out of our playbook and bombed the living shit out of the Ukraines day and night for 30+ days, they prepped the battlefield, and now they have broken through in several areas . they can stay in thier bunkers with no hope of resupply or make a run for it. (which I think is to late now) Zelensky refused the defenders at Mariupol to surrender several times , and I believe he is going to do the same the donbass . They will be encircled and destroyed .Doing that, zelensky is buying time. tieing up Russian troops for weeks or months . The donbass looks like a modern day Maginot line, with trenches and fortifications for miles , not an easy day, thats for sure. If they leave the bunkers now, the Russians will be on them like a pack of dogs until they can cross the river, if they can cross the river.

I remember reading about the German retreat to the Diepner river, the Russians were right on thier ass, They pinned them on the river bank It was a horrible slaughter,

I don't think they will have a hard time getting tyranny fluid since we're currently shipping them tanks and cash by the train load.

I would assume we're shipping normal maintainence supplies as well.

I know the country is focused on making guns illegal after the texas school shooting. But no one should be surprised if we get dragged into direct conflict with russia. At some point we are going to cross a line and then act surprised when the russians take action.

If Ukraine had a Second Amendment it would read like this:
A Well regulated militia being necessary to a free state, the people's right to keep and bear arms will be infringed and will be non-existent until the enemy is at the gates. Then we will let them borrow arms and ammunition, fully expecting it back when the threat is over. (if they survive).

Mariupol Falls, Izium falls, Rubizine falls,, Lyman falls, Siverdonesk falls, supply lines cut , Ukrainians surrender because they are out of supplies . The last large city in the donbass falls . The collaspe of the forces on the east side of the donbass river is inevitable. It will be a massive retreat to the river . The Russians will now kill or capture anyone left in the pocket quickly . That river will not be easy to cross ,most likely they will dig in there, I would expect a new offfensive from the South and North with river to thier flank until they can secure a crossing If they can.

Ukraine has taken some severe losses .The most they can do now is prolong the fighting, but the outcome is inevitable. I take my hat off to them, they did what nobody thought they can do, they put up one hell of a fight. But the writeing is on the wall.

I think they want to interdict the supply lines there. they cant do it with the air force on a daily basis , and they want to make it costly to cross any more rivers .
