It's gonna backfire in a big way. I think they just think that turning off fossil fuels or making them prohibitively expensive is going to some how birth infrastructure over night or allow everyone to afford an electric vhicle. I just wonder how badly they will mess everything up with it and how many people are going to die because of it.

Nuclear winter is not a real thing. It is about as real as cars exploding when you shoot the gas tank. i.e. a hollywood fabrication.
A complete nuclear exchange that fires every deployed weapon would not put as much materiel into the atmosphere as a small explosive volcanic eruption.

As laughably wishful thinking as this is I've read some admittedly very biased sources about the state of readiness of the russian arsenal. I didn't realize that these weapons apparently need quite a bit of upkeep. Not that anybody is pretending that 100% of them wouldn't work.
Anyway, the most brutal sanctions to date: No Big Macs. I'm only half-kidding. A life without mcdonalds fries is hardly a life at all.

Realistically what's the situation if putin rage quits and somehow convinces his generals to launch everything he can? Will smaller cities get it and what does it look like? How screwed are we all really? Obviously people in living in NYC skyscrapers are done but what about the rest of us.

I have no doubt , judging on the maintenance of their equipment that they may only get a few to work or go where they want. but still its not a place where we want to go.

It's quite an interesting topic.
Both western and eastern doctrine has, at least publicly, been to target military assets and ignore civilian ones.
There are of course significant military assets around most major cities, so that won't spare them. But you can rest easy in knowing that you were just collateral damage and the missiles weren't targetted at you.
Most of the scifi effects of a nuclear war in pop culture are about as real as the space combat in star wars. Space wizards with laser swords included.
While radiation will be an immediate concern in some locations, that will fade within a few weeks for all but the worst places.
The devastation of infrastructure and supply chain will be the real danger.

We should have 40,000 leases as in the past and now, even after a lease is approved, - exploration, - drilling, and - sale steps each need separate steps for *review, *comments, and then *approval before permits are granted AND process rules have been changed where now a single liberal judge can stop the process at any process or point and there are no federal appeals against the judicial over reach in stopping a fully vetted and approved sale.
